Soulless
White Eyes; The Fallen; The Empty
The Soulless are cursed Elves who have lost their soul while still alive. Their eyes turn white and their minds shatter.
It is said that they are inhabited by The Void.
Transmission & Vectors
White Eyes can only be transmitted through rituals and magical means if a subjects eyes and soul have been seen. It is not contagious; however, in some very rare cases it has happened that elves have been born soulless, though it is unknown why.
Symptoms
The eyes of afflicted turn pure white, and they loose all personality.
They are driven to recover their soul if possible, but if that is not possible, their mind stagnates and they become either feral or comatose.
Treatment
During early stages of the condition (up to one month) the condition can - theoretically - be cured by returning the soul to the afflicted. This however is very unlikely and undocumented.
Prognosis
If the soul can not be recovered (because it is no longer on this plane of existance or destroyed), patients stagnate and bit by bit loose all will to live, resulting in starvation and death.
If the soul could be recovered, but the patient is unable to do so over a long period of time, patients become feral and prone to violent outbursts.
Prevention
The eyes must be covered and protected at all times, using masks or cloth.
Cultural Reception
Soulless are feared and ostracized. Even though the condition is not contagious, they are avoided. Looking into a soulless eyes is supposed to bring bad luck.
