The Forest of Therin and Peppercorn (There-in)

Geography

A dense forest flanked by large rivers and lakes fed by heavy waterfalls from Braval's Rise. Ruins of ancient cities are spotted around the woods.

Ecosystem

The adundance of ancient ruins and un-charted terrain makes for easy homes for many of the wild-life, creatures take refuge and make dens or nests in the once grand towns, buildings and fallen structures throughout. As mortals have expanded their own settlements and road networks the more dangerous wild-life have retreated deeper within, making the pathways between towns (as they are usually patrolled) relatively safe from most of the dangers.

Ecosystem Cycles

Travelling in the woods off the roads are dangerous at most times, but even more so at night. When the sun goes down even the normally safe roads become more hazardous, most travellers will push to make it to the next settlements before nightfall, especially if unarmed or unguarded, those who don't make it or are in large enough groups will make camp along the side of the road and attempt to make themselves look larger and more dangerous to ward off potential threats.

Localized Phenomena

Rolling fog is occasionally observed within the woods, very rarely spreading near civilization, it is rumoured this fog follows the movements of certain creatures stalking their prey.

Fauna & Flora

The woods are filled with animals of all sizes from small rabbits and squirels to large deer and bears. Goblins and other such creatures are very common, there are often reports of ambushes and highway robbery on roads between settlements. Many plant life thrive in these woods, things from berry bushes, flowers and herbs all the way to large oak and spruce trees.

Natural Resources

Wood. Hide. Vegetation. Meat. Common Fruit. Fresh Water. Fresh Water Fish.

History

During the age of Illumination there were many town and cities within and around the forest that are now empty and abandoned, it is theorised that they were destroyed or fled during the events since the fall of that age.   Civilizations are drawn to this region for the history and natural resources, these woods have seen the fall and dawn of Kingdoms and Empires.

Tourism

The woods themselves are rarely travelled, people instead choosing to stick to the roads, being the centre of Kingdoms though they are visited and see mortals often. Explorers, adventurers and those skilled enough will make trips and expeditions into the woods, hunting for supplies, resources and experience.
