Lolth (Lol-th)

The Drow Demoness, The Spider Queen, Mistress of Trickery, all names for a once great, now fallen, God. Lolth is the dark mistress of the Drow, said to be pulling the strings behind every mischevious deed or double cross, skulking about in her dark layer of hell waiting for innocent souls to be snared by her web. At least that's what the Drow believe.
Not much is known about Lolth except that she was once a beautiful dark skinned Goddess, one of the first, desperate for the love and affection of her children. The legends say she grew jealous of the other Gods and attempted to overthrow them, to take their domains and worshipers for herself, unfortunately for her she was double crossed by some of her own followers who informed the other Gods of her plans. Lolth was struck down and banished to a hellish plane, there she was tainted, her form and purpose corrupted, she took on a darker form, top half a reminent of the beautiful creature she once was, lower half a giant black spider.
Lolth now claims the domain of Trickery, her followers (largely but not exclusively being Drow) model themselves after their mistress, skulking in the shadows, weaving webs of deceit and sabotage. They quite often find themselves in shadowy guilds specialising in subterfuge and betrayal.
It is said that the Spider Queen has a deep, burning hatred for Aureon, the God who supposedly struck her down, she purpetually plots to undo him and his domain, to take his place and rise back up from her plane and resume her true form, to become beautiful and loved once again. To do this she will stop at nothing, using every mischievous and deceptive method in her book to take down the God of Truth.
