Laketown

Laketown is a small fishing village set upon a the Glass Pond, a large lake in the middle of the Halfling Peninsula.

Demographics

Laketown consists almost entirely of halflings, though a few dozen humans have called Laketown home for generations as well.

Government

As with all settlements within the Halfling Peninsula, Laketown is self-governed. With Laketown's size, the population finds little need for written laws and governmental structures. The village is ultimately governed by a town-council consisting of anywhere between 10-20 individuals. Should village-wide decisions need to be made, laws written, or, more commonly, local disputes need to be settled, this council meets to rule on such issues. With that said, the town-council really has rather limited power all things considered.

Industry & Trade

As with all settlements within the Halfling Peninsula, there is little industry outside of agriculture (including food, clothing materials, and tobacco farming), baked goods, and the production of various meads, ales, whiskeys, wines, and the like.   It's proximity to the Glass Pond, the lake upon which the village sits, lends toward the population's affinity for fishing as well, making Laketown a local provider of various goods from the lake.   Additionally, the sheepherders of the Eowe Hills to the east deal much of their goods in Laketown, making the little village a rather large exporter of wool and other goods from these sheepherders.

Tourism

The town itself is beautiful and remote, which oddly enough does attract its fair share of travelers looking for peaceful country relaxation. This is exceptionally true among adventurers, both current and former, thanks in large part to The Apple Dumplin', a small inn run by a family of former adventurers.   The town also sees a boost in visitors in mid fall each year with the yearly installment of Margaret Pondswallow's Annual All Laketown Fishing Competition. The competition sees most of the towns residents and many visitors compete to reel in the largest fish from the Glass Pond. The Friday-Saturday competition culminates on Sunday with an awards ceremony and Margaret Pondswallow's Annual All Laketown Fish Fry at The Apple Dumplin'.

Geography

Laketown is built on the coast of the Glass Pond in the midst of the Halfling Peninsula. The surrounding area is fairly flat farmland, with the rolling Eowe Hills off to the near east.

Natural Resources

The nearby Glass Pond and Eowe Hills provide a number of trade goods, as well as various farms producing everything from carrots to tobacco.
