Kaldheim

Kaldheim is known to most as being home to snow, ice, and little else. In truth, a very small camp of frost giants have dwelt here for centuries. Roughly 300 years ago, the Korahgduhr dwarves were locked in an epic war with the frost giants who now live atop the Korahgduhr Mountains. As the war waged on, a number of dwarven clerics came across a group of 8 young frost giants who had been separated from their people. They were only children and had no interest in the conflict. The dwarves took pity on the frost giant children and, knowing they could not take them back to the giants for fear of death, and that they could not go back to the dwarves with children of the enemy, as they would be held as war prisoners at best, or killed at worst, they did the only thing they could think of.   The clerics abandoned Korahgduhr, instead boarding a ship with the giants and sailing for the nearest safe land they could find. The group landed on Kaldheim and despite the harsh environment, decided this would make a suitable home. After all, these were frost giants they were attempting to save. The cold couldn't bother them too much.   The years past and the dwarves all died out, but the frost giants began to grow into a functioning small community. To this day, the giants' descendants call this island home, though the dangers of the island spread far beyond the harsh weather. Remorhazes, mammoths, yetis, and a seemingly immortal sabre-tooth tiger have kept the giant population from booming on the island.

Geography

Kaldheim is a tundra and snow covered island in the North Sea. In addition to the tundra, the island contains a series of coniferous forests, hills, and mountain ranges. Just north of the main island of Kaldheim is a second island. No name has been given to this island specifically, but it has come to be included under the "Kaldheim" moniker.

Fauna & Flora

Very little grows as far as plant life is considered on Kaldheim. What does grow, however, are a series of prickly bushes and coniferous trees, such as pine and fir trees. Some of the trees and bushes produce berries and nuts, which is helpful since the ground is ill suited to farming.   As far as wildlife, Kaldheim's extreme cold makes it difficult for many species of beasts to exist here, though there are plenty of animals suited to the climate. Reindeer, caribou, polar bears, sabre-tooth tigers, tundra squirrels and other animals can be found in large enough numbers. In addition to the usual subjects, Kaldheim is also known to contain a number of very dangerous creatures which burrow beneath the surface of the island. These creatures are known as remorhazes. They burrow underground, stalk their prey, and attack without warning. Even the frost giants who call this island home are terrified of them.
