Appointment

The title is generally passed to the eldest child of the current holder, regardless of gender. If the current holder has no child, they may appoint any heir they so wish. If no heir is chosen at the time of the holder's death, the Duke of Brelia may appoint a new title holder. If the title is not passed to a direct child or family member, it is generally favorable if the title is still passed to one of noble birth.

Responsibilities

The holder of the title effectively owns the city and county of Westland. As such, they are responsible for its governance. Whether governing directly or through a reeve, mayor, council, or other method, the title holder is directly responsible for the city and county and answers not only to the Duke of Brelia and King of Krenada, but also to the people of Westland.

Benefits

The holder of the title is certainly privileged to a good bit of political power. They are the law in the land of Westland which wields quit a bit of authority. In addition, they are a Krenadan noble, which brings with it a slew of perks. Additionally, any revenue the city makes (minus taxes to the Duke of Brelia and King of Krenada, of course), as well as revenue from the outlying county, belongs to the title holder.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

There are three was this title can be revoked.
  1. The title is lost in war.
  2. The title is revoked by the Duke of Brelia or King of Krenada
  3. The title holder is deemed incapable of rule and at least 3/4 of the nobles of Krenada elect to remove them.
