Light of Aewalin Item in Ebilar | World Anvil

Light of Aewalin

During the final days of the Hallowing War, it appeared that the Continent would succumb to the will of the Void. All across the lands, fires and carnage spread as a wave of unending monstrosities decimated the armies of the ensouled races. It was as the unending night was descending upon the Continent that Aewalin, the Creator bestowed a vision upon the world's future champion Yaelman Hamnet. In this vision, Aewalin showed Yaelman the location of a powerful ore, with which he could forge a great blade to break the gates of the Void and seal the rift between the mortal plane the Void.   Following this vision, Yaelman found the material known as ghost ore in the depth of Mount Arraki on Hammerhenge Island. With this mysterious ore, the Light of Aewalin was forged. The long curving blade was ornately inlaid with gold and silver. The combination of precious metals, gemstone adorned pommel, and opalescent metal forged into the curving edges and lines of the falchion frame, gave the weapon an ethereal quality that spoke of the majesty and divinity that had prompted its creation.   The weapon was lost for many years after the ending of the Hallowing War. Eventually, after several generations, a heir of one of the original order of heroes who climbed the steps of Daer Cathos, presented the magnificent weapon to the newly established Brotherhood of Seven. The Brotherhood of Seven kept the weapon deep in the Vault of their stronghold, alongside newly acquired artifacts of Hallowed and Unhallowed origins. There, the weapon was kept safe until the Continent stabilized politically and ecnomically. Eventually, replicas of the great weapon were constructed from marble and precious metals (absent Ghost Ore in their construction) and gifted to the great Everlight Cathedral in Venzor, the Palace of Leaves in Amva Naequa, and to the dwarves of Gullyhold in the Grey Rise Mountains. Here, these replicas are presented as a reminder of the sacrifices and horrors of the great Hallowing War, as well as its heroes and the divine intervention that turned the tide for the ensouled.
