Law Bringer

Law Bringers serve a unique function in legal proceedings across the continent. Rather than the roles of a constable or the responsibilities of a legal scholar, the Law Bringer serves as a legal mouthpiece for the accused in civil and criminal trials. For individuals with enough coin, a Law Bringer can be hired to appear before the court to represent the accused and provide the facts of a case under oath and under questioning of a legal scholar. Typically, Law Bringers spend significant hours with an accused to learn the intimate details of a case and the circumstances of the individual. Law Bringers are practiced in using legal language and techniques for interpersonal ocmmunication to best represent the perspectives of the accused in a more sophisticated manner.   Similarly, Law Bringers can be hired (but are often appointed by magistrates and governors) to serve as an arbitrator in civil matters of law. Arbitration often invovles diplomatic discussion, but can also follow a more direct mediation model in more intense civic discourse. Often Law Bringers are brought in for negotiations between aristocrats and high born individuals, but can also be used to negotiate amnesty or resolve discourse between lower born and high born caste members.   Law Bringers have no capacity for enforcement of law, but rather play a crucial part in interrogations, dispute resolution, fact finding operations, and diplomatic or civil matters between citizens. Sometimes, Law Bringers are given instructions to seek out evidence (as detective-like operators) in more complex cases, or with groups that require more diplomatic finnesse, or in situations where constables, military or other peacekeeping organizations are sparse or implicated directly in a case. Given the niche functions of the Law Bringer, they are not found in all jurisdictions of kingdoms across the Continent.
