Session 91: Ronnie, Amongst Other Things
General Summary
- Dooturr sought out the SCS' safe house in Sharn. He knew that it was previously housed within a bar front called Weary Bones, but when he went to the same location, it had been renamed to Dusty Brews. Manning the empty bar was not the warforged Tank, but an old gnome, Telus.
- After a long conversation and unsuccesful stealth attempts, Dooturr eventually turned invisible in the bathroom, snuck into the kitchen, and found the old entrance to the hideout was covered in rubble. So, too, was the hidden exit from the hideout. Dooturr sent correspondence to Massimo inquiring, and Massimo replied later that night, saying he received a report from Starr long ago that the previous hideout had been destroyed, and a new one established within one of the larger clock towers in Sharn - the Huge Harold. It had been the Order of the Emerald Claw that destroyed the Weary Bones hideout during the dispute over the Codex of Tsll Y'gall.
- In the new hideout, Dooturr brought with him three unremembered Crypt Crew members. Some objected, but the blessing of Dooturr was sufficient. Present in the hideout was Starr, also known as The Other - guild members speak of Starr the same way children speak of heroes, and tales recounting his work in the shadows are often told to new recruits. Many things were discussed between the two.
- Starr confirmed that the SCS wished to continue doing business with the Blacksmith. Their deepest investigations regarding the individual yielded essentially nothing, but their influence and financials have been undeniably helpful.
- Dooturr wrote a report of musings while in the White Room, and it made its rounds to Starr. Thus, he has been preparing for his departure to Calsalonia, but insists it is prudent that another is named to direct operations in Sharn. There were many possible candidates.
- Bones have been planted to monitor developments regarding Okeanos Tsitak, King Cornelius, and Maximus Marius within Sharn. Several rallies are held in the name of Marius relatively often.
- Starr also provides his assessment of the skeleton people’s safety within Sharn: clear. In times of peace, those that desire conflict search for scapegoats. The Mourisi have long been that scapegoat. In times of strife, people have other problems, and the SCS can take advantage.
- There have been whispers in the shadows speaking poorly of the Crew. Some seem to have lost faith in their absence. Some say their legendary status was poorly earned. Starr warns the Crew to tread carefully - "your legacy is being forged in perpetuity."
- The Crew finally tracked down Ronnie Padovana - taking out the garbage behind a tavern in Menthis Plateau. He was delighted to see them, pulling several more roast beef sandwiches out of his pocket for them all. He had several other things to share with them as well.
- Nervously, he let them know that Maleakos' mother, Tunrida, had been appearing to him and asking the whereabouts of the Crew. He knew not where they were, so he couldn't help her at the time, but he implored the Crew to understand that he could not turn her away the next time she appeared. It seemed important business she needed to discuss with the Crew.
- Ronnie asked a favor of the Crew - he knew they had a portion of land, and wishes to visit Maleakos' portion of it. In addition, he misses his old life in Bluevine, though he know he cannot return - specifically, he misses viniculture, and hopes to continue it on their land if they would grant his request. He says he would be in their debt if so.
- The Arcane Congress was also discussed. He said he had very brief employment there. Ronnie knew of Crampernap Dingtickle, and did not have a very glowing review. He did not know specifically of the arcane weapons the Crew told to him, but assured them they were theoretical if Dingtickle had been discussing them. The Crew asked if he thought he could - hypothetically - build the weapons, and he seemed confident he could, given sufficient details. Ronnie also hesitantly described a contact there - a goliath, Griselda Bearkiller Agu-Oluvane - that had been his rather enthusiastic and affectionate research assistant, that could perhaps help the Crew get in.
- Ronnie discussed parenting with N'nchyk.
- Viribus asked him if he knew of an enchanting location. Ronnie said he'd been interested in the magic of Sharn could provide, and perhaps his favorite had been an enchanter's workshop called Glyphwork Foundry, run by a warforged named S16-IL.
- The Crew spoke with Paven and Naven, as they were Circle of Stars druids. Ashpin was present to telepathically relay messages, and the pair of firbolgs seemed to have some sort of specialized connection that let them both communicate with Ashpin. They conveyed that when studying the new star, they came across a brand new omen - neither weal nor woe, but watershed, meaning something new. They had also seen the horrible visions. If anything, they thought this new star was something that this world was something this world was not prepared to understand, for they do not believe in the myths of the nature of stars.
- The Crew spoke again, this time to Alden d'Orien. Ashpin wished to go to the Library of Korranberg, and the quickest way would be via a House Orien teleportation circle - but they were now shut down. Alden said he could help, but the Crew would need to get into the closed facility, and it may be guarded. Vishtai, the kalashtar manservant of Alden, also had a telepathic chat with Ashpin. Eventually, the quori spirits of the two men materialized, and had a heated exchange regarding Ashpin and the kalashtar.
- Viribus sought to sever some of his connections to Brucos, one of which was the property of the Babbling Kobold, for which he signed a contract with Brucos. He had Erwin examine it, and he returned from the archives with some clauses he couldn't quite understand. They concerned Viribus, who brought them to Theobald. He said there is no telling what kind of magic the contract was imbued with from the words alone, but it's clear someone is trying to shepherd Viribus down the path of the Rage of War. They also discussed Brucos in detail, to the surprise of Theobald - Brucos is known as a real estate and business mogul. The actions Viribus describes are much more malevolant, and warns Theobald against direct investigation. When Dooturr describes the demons that accosted the Crew when they first met Brucos, Theobald theorizes that these demons were yugoloths - fiends that are known to exhange their services for material gold.
- Throughout, N'nchyk was handwriting fliers because the Dragonmarked Houses were disbanded.
- N'nchyk and Dooturr examined the notes of Professor Quillicarious. The main notebook was Field Sketches: Fungi that Look Suspiciously Like Former Colleagues. It’s a sketchbook with increasingly detailed mushroom caricatures of other Morgrave professors, labeled things like “Dr. Thrombin, post-tenure decay phase.” However, within the sketchbook was a scrap of parchment labeled "Conversations with the Bloomed One".
