Denizens

The Royal Palace is a small village on its own. It houses the Ruling Family and the extended Royal Family. The members of the Royal Guard and the regular staff also have their Quarters in the palace. Moreover, there are always some healers on-site and some noble or another in one of the many guest rooms.

Architecture

The Royal Palace is a place of grandeur with fancy masonry and architecture. Grand portraits, intricate relieves, and designs adorn the walls and pillars.   The Palace encompasses several rooms: a big kitchen, a ball and dining room, multiple pantries and a wine cellar, a vault, a small prison, an armory, and a trophy room. There are quarters for the members of the Royal Guard and the house staff and plenty of guest rooms for nobles or high-ranking visitors. There also is a botanical garden as well as an outdoor garden with many flowerbeds, which the late Queen used to enjoy.

Defenses

The Palace is surrounded by thick walls, with watchtowers at regular intervals. The Royal Guard patrols the Palace grounds and mans the watchtowers, which have arrow slits and a massive bell for sounding the alarm. There supposedly are secret rooms and passages to guide the Royal Family to safety in emergencies.

History

After countless years of having to fight threats from the outside and the inside, the now Royal Family came out on top in Newgrowth 452 and took on ruling the city. After being in power for almost a decade, the Royal Family had considerably expanded its influence and was ruling over all of Edune. To commiserate their power they ordered the construction of the Royal Palace on top of the hill Riverkeep was constructed. The Palace has served as the Royal Family's center of operations ever since.   In the early hours of Redfall 5 in 746 the Queen reported her beloved lady-in-waiting missing. A few hours later lady's mutilated corpse was discovered in one of the guest rooms reserved for noble visitors. Despite thorough investigations, the culprit never was caught. Her corpse vanished before she could be buried. The Queen was so enraged that she had the members of the Royal Guard on duty in that part of the palace fired and exiled from the city.   During the Summer Solstice celebrations of 773, the late Queen of Edune was assassinated. Because the King went missing and subsequently was declared dead in 767, this left their two 16-year old twins in power. Roughly a month later, the late Queen's brother staged a coup, arguing that the twins are too young to rule the continent. He proposed that he, as the Queen's oldest living relative, should rule instead. While he was unable to completely usurp the twins, he managed to gain control of the Frostbreath Highlands, which are vital for the city's fur trade and foot situation.   The continent is now tethering on the edge of civil war and the city guard has a difficult time containing the fights breaking out between the different factions inside of the city. The tension in the Royal Palace is palatable, with those working there eying each other with suspicion.

Tourism

The Royal Palace is only open to the public two or three days a tenday when the citizens can seek an audience with the current ruler to bring forth injustices, problems, and concerns. Due to the ongoing explosive mood in the city, this has been completely shut down because the Royal Guard fears another assassination attempt on the young Rulers.
