Session 01: New acquaintances

General Summary

Introduction

It is the morning of the 12th of Veiltear in the year 773. The sun is slowly rising and with it, Vander Fennaut III, a Human male of noble descent, and Thedgrem Granitebringer, a male Dwarf of the An-Karesh tribe. They were spending the night in the Dancing Damsels Inn in Moorbrook. After an alcohol-heavy breakfast, they got roped into helping Isabelle Brightwood retrieve the weapons stolen just two days prior.

Encounter with Goblin hunters

With much complaining from Vander about the discomfort of the horse-drawn cart, the unlikely and newly-found companions made their way east, towards the Inari river, where the Goblins have set up their camp. After just two hours, Isabelle stopped the cart, having spotted some Goblin hunters with wolf companions just ahead. One of the Goblins approached the party, asking what they were doing in Goblin territory and asking them to leave. After some charming from Vander, he conceded that he could not return the stolen weapons as he did not have them on him and their tribe's leader, Bugsy, would have to make such a decision. In order to buy the group some time, the Goblins were convinced to move away from their camp for a while.

Bugsy, self-proclaimed specialist of pretty rocks

The group made their way to the Goblin camp without further incidents. While Isabelle waited at a small distance to keep an eye on the horse and the cart, Thedgrem and Vander approached the camp - promptly triggering a trap set up to alarm the Goblins about intruders. They were greeted by Bugsy, a small and somewhat chubby Goblin. Bugsy had been expecting them, as the charm on the Goblin had worn off and he had come back to inform the tribe about the group coming their way. Wanting to keep the tribe safe - and because the party had not attacked the hunters - Bugsy proved open to negotiations and offered the party to have some rabbit stew with them, even going as far as offering a cushion to the complaining nobleman. Meanwhile Thedgrem, an experienced stonemason started working on one of the seating stones, making it more comfortable.   After offering Vander a smooth stone with traces of a blue gemstone, and Thedgrem a rough stone with sharp edges and hints of a green gemstone as a token of friendship, which Thedgrem quickly fashioned into a necklace, they negotiated for the return of the weapons. Bugsy agreed to return part of the weapons right away and the rest after negotiations were done. In turn, Thedgrem and Vander pledged to convince the people of Moorbrook to ease off on destroying the forest the Goblins live and hunt in, as well as to do something about their traps, which had just recently killed a younger Goblin. Additionally, Bugsy wanted some protection for the tribe for the upcoming Crossing of Souls.

Up to no good

With the help of the Goblins, they eventually loaded two of the three stolen barrels with weapons onto the cart. After saying their goodbyes to Bugsy, who gifted Vander the cushion it had fashioned for him earlier, the group made their way back to Moorbrook. When they arrived in Moorbrook sometime in the evening, Thedgrem helped unload the weapons, bringing them into the Inn. There they met up with Alva Brightwood, Isabelle's sister and the barkeeper of the Dancing Damsels. They agreed to talk about the deal Vander and Thedgrem made with the Goblins the next day.   With nothing to do for the rest of the evening, Thedgrem and Vander looked for a way to earn some easy coin. Thedgrem ended up distracting Nox, Captain of the Guard, while Vander sweet-talked Simon, the youngest - and most gullible - of the Guardsmen, into having a fistfight with Thedgrem, saying he would even bet some money on Simon. In his slightly intoxicated state, Vander's words got to Simon's head - and paired with the prospect of money, he agreed. They made their way to a quiet part of Moorbrook, where Thedgrem knocked Simon out without much of an effort. Vander promptly took the 50 Silver Pieces Simon had bet on himself and asked Thedgrem to carry Simon back to the Inn. Thedgrem, who felt bad for Simon, slipped a gold coin into his pocket without Vander noticing. They placed Simon just outside the Inn, with a bottle of wine Vander had priorly emptied, to make it look like he just had too much to drink, before heading to their respective rooms.
