Xan'var

Written by Salen

The Capital of Nagar, Xan'var is the head of the dwarven nation. Meaning City of Power in dwarven, Xan'var is a bustling city where the Gearsmith headquarters are found. Found under the northeastern part of the Black Mountains, this city is famous for its technology and its clockwork inventions. The dwarven smiths make use of the deep lava flows to power their forges, and no other forges can get this hot. The largest producer of Gearwheels, Xan'var is home to the Granitespike clan. This large clan of dwarves works on producing Gearwheels for sale and even modifying them for a price.

Demographics

The population of Xan'var is 95% dwarven, with a small percentage of humans and half-elves

Government

Led by the Highsmith, this city is the seat of power in Nagar and the Highsmith runs it all from his stone throne. As both ruler of Nagar, and the Gearsmith guild, he has complete control over his peoples interests and strives to bring prosperity to the nation with every deal.

Defences

While the nation of Nagar does not have the best airships in Tamia, they have the most fearsome armored gearwheels. Three sizes of armored Gearwheels can be found throughout the nation, and Xan'var itself has a regiment of 50 of them, the largest holding five combat ready dwarves manning the cannons.

Infrastructure

Flowing lava forges are kept in the deep mines and used to melt iron at a much faster rate than any forge in Tamia. The city of Xan'var also has roads carved out of the tunnels, and 'paved' with shattered granite to make it a slightly lighter color than the rest of the stone.

Guilds and Factions

The Gearsmith guild has the most impact in Xan'var.

History

The first city the dwarves carved out of the caverns here, Xan'var was the dream of those first dwarves. They strove for decades working the stone and their dream is a beautiful thing to behold. The city grew inch by inch as more dwarves came to want to change their city and make a part of it their own, and as the years went by, the city started to really take shape.

Geography

Xan'var is in a large underground cavern. It rests under the Black Mountains and the air is kept fresh by the many tunnels that lead up to the surface.

Granitespike Clan

Owners of the largest Gearwheel company, this clan of dwarves specializes in custom renovations and mass producing the sturdy dwarven vehicles. They sell them around the cities of Tamia with exagerated signs and gimicks, and the people love it. The rich throw money at them for coloring and nifty gadgets, and the poor keep dreaming of owning one someday. The only thing they ever worry about is competition. Word around the caves has a dwarven gearsmith working on mixing magic and technology, and that could be bad for business.
