Nation of Reverie

Written by Salen

The nation of Reverie was located in Southeastern Tamia, in the Nym Forest. The faeries of Reverie fled here during the First War, when they fought against the slavery of the elves, and worked a great spell of vanishing, transporting the entire nation to another realm. The realm is located in another dimension, akin to the ones that the Gods dwell in, but still accessible to those that can work great magic, and know where to look. Only one person has ever stumbled by accident into this realm, and the common thought is that the Goddess Syll helped with that. The faerie villages can be found scattered around a central grove, with one massive tree in the center, called the Great Tree, and the weather here is always like that of late Riverswell.

Capitol City & Rulership

The capitol of Reverie is Nym The Hidden City. This faerie city, made up mostly of hollow trees and dwellings made out of bushes and leaves, holds the Throne of Peace and is the seat of faerie power in Reverie. The city is home to all kinds of faeries. Winged Sprites, water dwelling Nerrids, tree loving Dryads, foul Korreds, Unicorns, Invisible Nossums, petty Quicklings, etc. Here they all reside in peace, flitting about having their revels and dances amidst the timeless realm of spring. The Faerie Queen rules here, watching over her thousands of subjects and keeping the balance of power between the myriad of faerie kind, struggling against the Shadow Court for dominance.

Magic & Technology

Reverie is home to faeries and as such is the epitome of magic. Since they are actually creatures of magic, they can cast most harmless spells without thought, and make any sort of minor effect happen at will. They never cast harmful magic, at most being able to spark or chill someone with static or cold mischievously. They have no need for technology, and have been away from the world for so long that they have never really seen any. That being said, when faeries are exposed to the newer technology of the world, they will have an insane desire to both fidget and tamper with these things out of sheer curiosity. One of the most interesting things about Faeries however, is their ability to merge their power together. When they cast complex rituals, they can hold a Revel and transfer their power to one individual. That person then has the magic of all the faeries involved for the next 24 hours. This is used to defend against outside influences such as demons, great dragons, or to move an entire nation into another realm. Unfortunately the faerie holding said power burns out, sacrificing themselves to save all faerie kind

Elemental Focus

Each of the nations in Tamia are tied to one of the elements. When magic of that type is used in that nation it has a stronger effect than anywhere else across the world. The nation of Reverie is no different, even though it has disappeared from Tamia, it still holds its connection to one of the elements. The primary element in Reverie is Ether and magic cast here that involves that element sees the magic effect grow stronger and encompass more than anywhere else in the world. This means that magic used to create a glamour or even heal is ten times as strong in Reverie. In fact it is why the great spell was strong enough to whisk away an entire nation to another realm in the first place.

History

The history of Reverie is like most other nations, but from a different point of view. After the star rocks fell and decimated most of the faeries cities across Tamia, the displaced faeries moved to the remaining places that still survived. The forests of S'ren and Nym. The refugees started coming shortly after that and when the faeries saw that they weren't going to leave, they went to them and tried to offer peace. Some found the faeries and other sylvan creatures of this land too strange and turned away from them, instead clinging to the beliefs of their Gods. Others went into the mountains and built cavernous cities, while still more feared them and called them demons. Only the elves welcomed the faeries and worked side by side with them over the decades. Then it happened, War. The races fought each other, over land and resources, and the faeries tried to stay out of it, but the elves said they had a way to stop it. So the faeries went to the elves willingly, desperate to end the fighting across their land. They were deceived.

Slavery and Deceit

The elves lied to the faeries and when they came to them, they were bound in spells of holding and captured, rendering their magic useless. It seemed that the elves had found a way to boost their already powerful magic by enslaving the faeries and drawing on their connection to the fabric of magic to boost their already powerful spells to near Godhood. The elves went at the alliance with furious anger. The dwarves were the first to fall, retreating into their mountains in the south and pulling the rocks in after them. The humans, stubbornly, kept fighting; calling upon their Gods to help them fight back. While the priests had channeled little prayers before, now the Gods answered in force, giving their faithful powerful prayers to keep back the elves and light up the darkness. Humans still died by the hundreds, yet their sacrifice gave the faeries the resolve to fight back themselves. The first to break free called upon their Goddess, the Mother of faerie kind to aid them and swelled with power. That faerie broke the seal of the elves and gave the faeries the power to fight back once more. Sickened by what their power had done against the people, they fled to the safety of their own dwindling nation, Reverie, and worked a great spell of vanishing, disappearing from the world for good.

Geography

All of the cities of Reverie can be found in the realm close to the Great Tree. The realm itself is as large as needed, so the boundaries are ever changing from day to day. This is in part due to the very nature of faeries, and is only kept stable by the will of the Faerie Queen. The land is similar to the forest that they used to call home (The Nym Forest) and the temperature is always warm and comfortable. Rain falls the same as normal, yet it never grows cold or snows here.

The Guardian

The dragon called Vainilenaryl is the guardian of the faerie realm. He grew up with faeries all his long life and was devastated when they were used by the elves and forced away. The faeries found him in Nym Forest, which was the original home to the nation of Reverie before they worked their spell of Vanishing, and asked him to guard their forest for them. The veil between their new home would be weakest here and he would be the one to make sure that they were left alone by anyone searching for them. He grudgingly accepted, living his long years alone if this abandoned forest.

Revel

The most important celebration to the faeries is the Revel. This night long celebration involves dancing, drinking, and eating in such wild fashion that it would make most dwarves shy and the hedonistic cringe. All night long faeries mingle having wild sex and singing songs while swinging from the trees and branches of their realm. Rites of marriage and contracts are formed here, as well as transfers of power in desperate situations. A revel can be held for any one purpose, or just for fun. It is as whimsical as the faeries that attend, and only the Goddess Syll knows what may come sometimes.
