The 12 refers to a group of Dragons hatched/born from one clutch, over a period of 10 years

History of the 12

Cursed/Hunted because of the large hatching Parents wanted to protect them Tricked by a Genie, but cursed instead of protected Veritas and Karnak resists the curse.
Others are locked into humanoid forms and put into stasis, woke up 8 years ago Agree to go find help and clues from each of the 12 nations, each heading to a different house/nation
At some point, Veritas mind breaks trying to break the curse on her family and her sanity starts degrading

Effects of the curse

Dragon locked into humanoid forms, their major abilities vastly reduced. A clue as to their nature comes through into their human form, such as hair, skin tint etc
