Ûl and Ûm Character in Eashavar | World Anvil

Ûl and Ûm

Ûl and Ûm (typically, written Ul and Um) are a pair of closely-interlinked deities common among the culture of the Spirit Elves. They are facets of Maer, and they are unique in that the syllables themselves are considered holy, often hummed during the process of meditation or trance. They are also closely correlated to Eashavar's moons, with Ul being represented by the yellow Yerevas, and Um being represented by the purple Maeras. As a result, the syllables themselves are closely correlated to their respective colors, which are also considered on the level of holy by Spirit Elves.   Spirit Elves typically view Maer as one of their own, a direct ancestor to the race, very similar to how Fey view their deities. They interpret her as a wanderer and caretaker of the world, and believe her to be an example of enlightenment - one who has elected a path of independence and reflection after enduring others' betrayals. They also see her as a free-spirit, and praise her as the one who plants the Feral Lands' many psychedelic herbs and mushrooms, imbuing them with her mystical powers.   Maer, they believe, has also provided the gift of Ul and Um, syllables which allow the Spirit Elves to focus and enter their spiritually-heightened state. Through Eashavar's moons, Maer shines onto Eashavar, and through Ul and Um, Maer allows Eashavar's people to shine outwards and into the Demi-Plane of Spirits, where they may achieve more harmonious lives.
