The Empire of Deule

Structure

Deule is governed by a president. A cabinet in charge of various branches of government advise the president. This includes various functions, including education, the military, and other federal authority. The Executive authority authors and controls the spending of the country's tax income. The elected Congress, considered equal to the president, is composed of 112 members in a unicameral body. The body is in charge of laws in the country, as well as managing the collection of taxes.

History

Deule traces its origins to a city state in the heart of the Kunlinka Strait, on the northern coastline. The strait was presumed to first host permanent society in the 5000's RB. The hot, warm tropical environment made farming difficult due to a shortage of large land to host crops, meaning that settled agrarian lifestyles remained small and sportaic. However, technology derived from southern Corsin tribes diffused to the people-groups of Kunlinka, including Deule. The city-state of Deule was home to the Deulians, which traced their origins to the Corsin plains. Cultural attitudes were much more unique however, favoring a unique polytheistic belief system tied to the environment. South of the city-state, Bickutus, another similar tribe founded around the same time, inhabited the central Kunlinka Strait. It grew much larger in size, using irrigation and hill farming to gain stronger control over the land. Its wealth, generated from markets in food, iron, and fishing, were enabled by its seatrade, which also allowed for easy communication and therefore enabled Bickutus to exert its military power. As such, its authority would gradually grow well into the 1400's.
Deule rise to power began with its strong, central authority, which combined with its small size, allowed the king to govern the state very effectively. gained notoriety when it interacted with the kingdom of Arena. Arena began using its vast economic backing, to seize the cities of Kunlinka. Deule engaged with Arena in the 681, Deule was briefly conquered by Arena, but the kingdom's overextension of its resources and communication meant that the occupation was easily deposed. Deule continued to rule its small state for the next three hundred years. In the late 900's, Deule managed to win a victory against the Northern broken Arena state of Sonsur. Deule lost this land when invaded by Iopluatan in 1064. Deule maintained its holdings, expanding economically over the next two centuries.
A well placed alliance with the militarily powerful Corsin allowed them to defeat their southern enemy, Bickutus, in 1598. Annexing the land in the next decades, the governor established a king that shed the more kin-based culture, transforming into a feudal society, as opposed to a local structure. A tributary system for the various provinces established. Deule, using economic and naval dominance, annexed surrounding city-states, unifying the strait over the course of the 16th century. Slow, although steady economic growth occurred during this time. The growing wealth of Deule allowed for new technologies, such as advanced ballistics, to be further researched. A rebellion by Sozlenians left the strait split in 1673. Deule was forced to recognize their independence, but was continuously at odds with them. Increasing monarchical power shifted the country into a very militaristic society. The war of 1802 proved that Deule was very aggressive, seizing land from their neighbor Sozlenia.
Shifting cultural attitudes decreased the prevalence of religion in society. Christianity, which had once been very commonly practiced, was dissuaded by popular opinion. Deule became increasingly militaristic, using executive power to replace local enforcement. The partnership of Khomm and the GSE was a next natural step, joining the Ekard powers and further isolating themselves from their Peraquiem neighbors. Following the outbreak of WWI, Deule sided with the Ekard forces, and Florens Bragg, a general in the Deule military, deposed the king and seized power, establishing a dictatorship. Following Bragg's defeat, Allied forces established a democratic system. The new president, Zackary White, took office. Initial rule proved difficult, and rebuilding the country proved insurmountable. It was during this time of extreme poverty, caused by destroyed production and reduced trade routes, that faith, varying from Tribianism Deutianism, and Crestentin, became a major role in society, depending on the regions of the country.

Demography and Population

Deule has a population of 42 million people. The overwhelming majority of Deuleians are native Peraqian of the Bickuti, Sloz, and Deulian ethnicities which are native to Kunlinka and southern Corsin. The Bickuti ethnicity is found in central Deule, while sloz peoples, the smallest major group, inhabits the southern lands of the country. Corsani and Deulian peoples are most common in the northern and northeastern lands receptively. The country has diverse religious practices, that vary on the people group and location. The official language of Deule is dutch, as it was common in Bickutus and neighboring city-states, but it remains very rare in the world. More common global languages spoken in Deule include Poleic and English. Most of the population is grouped on the Northern coasts of the population, due to the center of trade and industrial centers. The life expectancy is 79.2 years. The literacy rate of Deule is 95.6%.

Territories

Deule occupies the Northern Kunlinka peninsula, a strip of land that connects the Peraquian and Oparvan continents. The country borders the Bermion ocean and the Willmont ocean in the north and south, respectively. The rolling, lush Zvonharin mountains are found in the center of the country, providing good farming and mining resources. The woodlands that cover the inner territory of the country provide beautiful landscape. Extensive, sandy beaches that make up a tropical rain forest bio me are some of the most beautiful and popular in the world. In its early history, the city-states in the area faced resistance to the incorporation of foreign Deulian assimilation by the governor. This military regime was rejected in southern Kunlinka, forming a competing country, Sozlenia. Deule has controlled the various northern provinces through military corercision for most of its history. Over time, the states were united under a common goal of military power and shared ethnicity, and most of the population is satisfied with the rule.

Military

The Deule military is one of the most highly trained, funded, and respected in the world. Being bordered by two oceans, Deule has had strong emphasis on its navy. Deule was known for ruling the seas, overseeing trade between the oceans. Deule required military service for most of its existence. Men at the age of 21 had to serve for a period of three years, but could do so up to nine. Requiring extremely intense training for several different situations, the Deule military is a very capable force.

Technological Level

Deule maintains a very technologically advanced military. However, little is investing in commercial or industrial innovation, Deule lacks the commercial centers and laboratories for corporate research, preferring to import new ideas and inventions from more technologically inclined countries such as Corsin, Lesparia, the GSE, and Ostedia.

Religion

Deule has the largest Atheist population in the world. The focus on military domination had required religious abandonment while in service, and the government criticizes the practicing of any religion. Therefore, much of the population isn't motivated to practice, or instill the doctrines and beliefs in children. However, large sects of Tribian, Crestentin, and Jewish believers live in the country and maintain a healthy faith.

Foreign Relations

Deule has had a strong relation with Corsin, and in its early history in the 1500's, Deule shared a common mercantilist approach to foreign policy. Their neighbor to the east, Sozlenia, has been in conflict with Deule since its inception. Overly militaristic behavior, and the invasion of Solzenia's western territory in 1802 strained their relationship with Peraquian powers. As such, they became good terms with the GSE in Oparva. Deule's stance in the first world war ended any and all good relations with their Peraquiem neighbors. As such, they have been regarded as hated by northern Oparvan countries.

Agriculture & Industry

Deule has a very wet, tropical climate, with cool, mild winters. This makes Deule an optimal growing environment. Tea, Tobacco, Sweet potatoes, sugar, vanilla, pineapple, and bananas. However, the small availability of land means that stable grain crops can't be grown in Deule, meaning that wheat, corn, cotton, and rice must be imported. Deule has several factories in the country. Most specialize in steel and iron smelting, as well as the manufacturing of heavy machinery, such as cars, ships, and military supplies. Many consumer goods are outsourced.

Trade & Transport

Deule controls a large shipping industry. Due to its position on two oceans, most trade is conducted by massive container ships. Thousands of ships carrying tens of millions of tons of goods pass through the Haldrien Canal, connecting the Willmont and Bermion oceans. Deule maintains trade deals with agricultural giants like Akachuku, the GSE, and Corsin to feed its population.
