Multinational corporations have all but extinguished mom-and-pop clinics, apothecaries, health stores and the like. With the discovery of magic and folk who can wield it there was a short resurgence of family and people-owned businesses harnessing these new powers and abilities to heal old injuries, ailments and disease as well as treating new, magic-related troubles.
But in a few short years those same conglomerates edged into this new industry and homogenized the landscape. Here and there you can still find a family clinic, and back-alley doctors still abound. But for most folk, Starmark is their only source of medical support.
Starmark has, in the years since they moved into the magical-medical space, slowly been working to eradicate (legally or extrajudicially) locally-owned clinics and back-alley doctors. Their efforts have taken a huge chunk of the business offline, and those that remain have become very careful with their clientele. Knowing a local doctor, healer or clinic these days is a privilege and downright lucky. People keep their local healers close to their chest, an incredibly guarded secret.
People who enter Starmark (entrance to the building is considered tacit consent to their ToS) sign over rights to their biometric data in perpetuity as well as DNA to be used at the discretion of Starmark. An incredibly devious bit of work, considering Starmark is potentially more widely known as the private security contractor (private police) to most of the worlds' businesses and politicians. The vast majority of people have no choice but to use Starmark services, gifting Starmark with mountains of data that they have used to claw, cheat and manipulate themselves into a position of almost complete power on the world stage.
