The Xavier Institute

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
In 1992 (the start of the game) there were roughly 250 students at the Xavier Institute with 198 of them being mutants. The school was destroyed and rebuilt a few times. The original location in Salem Center, New York is well known by 1994 and is not a safe location for anyone wanting to keep a secret. The Xavier Institute was relocated to the dimension of Limbo in 1994 in order to ensure the safety of the students.   Emma Frost is the current headmistress of both the Xavier Institute and the Massachusetts Academy. The current number of students is kept rotating in order to reduce outside influence. Students are cycled between the Xavier Institute and a few other locations including, but not restricted to, the Massachusetts Academy, the Latverian Lateral Learning Laboratory, the Future Foundation (also in Latveria), the Imaginarium Arcademy of Ventura, and Annahme High School in Annahme. The Xavier Institute is the model the other schools are either based off of or deliberately designed away from.

Purpose / Function

The Xavier Institute is a boarding school that provides a quality education for young people. During the game most students were mutants, but the original purpose of the school had been expanded to include species from other societies along with a small number of Humans without the mutant genome.

Alterations

The school had been destroyed and rebuilt a couple of times. It currently exists in the dimension of Limbo. This has proven somewhat problematic since the disappearance of Illyana Rasputin.

History

The history of the school lines up with the school as presented in the 616 universe before the 1980s. The school expanded from the New Mutants rather than downsize after they were students. Some of them were still at the school when the game opened. Emma Frost did not die and continued to run her school as well. The close proximity of the two schools meant competition from the same pool of students for both schools for a time. Emma Frost combined her school with the Xavier Institute for a time in 1992, but split back off the following year. The two schools are still affiliated and maintain close ties.
