The Protocol
The Protocol is an alleged conspiracy of the world's wealthy to dominate global society and subtly control humanity as a whole. While details differ depending on the story, parts of conspiracy theory remain constant. According to the story, The Protocol was founded in 1945 at the close of the Second World War. Thanks to secret government contracts in the United States and United Kingdom, as well as the seizing of Nazi gold, a number of individuals became exorbitantly wealthy. Wanting to avoid a repeat of the horrors they had witnessed over the past three decades, they agreed to use their power and wealth to guide humanity onto a more positive path.
Over time, additional members were added to the group. It should be noted that different conspiracy theorists accuse different wealthy individuals (usually those they personally dislike) of being members of The Protocol, rather than there being a specific list. As these new members joined, and the First Cold War progressed, their previously altrustic goals began to darken. By the 1990s, The Protocol had determined itself the sole organisation that could prevent a global catastrophy along the lines of the Second World War or a hypothetical nuclear war.
Many conspiracy theorists argue that the strong climate measures undertaken by governments in the first half of the 21st century were at the behest of The Protocol. Others argue that the United Nations is itself a front for The Protocol. In all cases, the conspiracy theory paints the goals of The Protocol as nefarious, subtly controlling world governments and undermining democracy in order to shape humanity as they see fit.
