Sarissa
Sarissa is a charter city located in the East African Federation. It was primarily funded by, and plays host to the Headquarters of Aegis Security, one of the largest security corporations in the world. It is located within the national borders of Kenya, close to the twin cities of Old and New Mombasa, but as a charter city, is entirely removed from EAF law. The city has a permanent population of approximately 300,000, but workers commute to the city from elsewhere in the EAF. Although most well known for being the headquarters of Aegis Security, Sarissa plays host to many other security and non-security corporations.
Construction of the city began in 2047, lasting until 2051, when the city core was officially opened. Aegis Security lead the initial rounds of funding, and later rounds were joined by larger investment firms. The city is designed in a nouveau-brutalist style, specifically crafted to confer feelings of bunkers, walls, and security, while also providing feelings of relaxation with interspersed wood, ceramics, and greenery. The entirety of Aegis Security's headquarters abides by this design choice, as do many municipal buildings, but later constructions have different and more varied styles.
Due to the amount of revenue Sarissa brings in - as well as favourable contracts from Aegis Security - the government of the East African Federation continues to support it. However, human rights activists have criticised the city for its extreme surveillance systems and overbearing police force. Aegis maintains that workers are made aware of experimental surveillance systems before working in the city, and new recruits are often assigned to gain experience on police patrols. This has not stopped international outcry against semi-often police brutality in the city, however.
