The Bristol Arldom
The Bristol are renowned for their boat craft. This however, is a weakness as much as a boon. During the Golden age, the Nords sought to conquer the Gaels, sailing on long ships to raid and eventually defeat. The Gaels built a fleet in Camulod harbour, fetching wood from any source available. Their large Galleons met the longboats at sea and turned the tides of the war. The cost was that there were no more trees to fell. Desperate, the Gaels invaded Lapland, hoping to hold its vast reserves of timber to replenish their fleet. Lapland wasn’t the Bristol Islands and The Gaels had no advantage on land. When the Nord army arrived on foot, it looked like the Bristol force would be decimated. Fortunately, an envoy from the dwarves intervened and bade the Nords lay down their axes and the Gaels put down their longbows. In a tense conference that followed, an accord was reached. The result was a codeveloped colony in the Funnel harbour in the south.
Since then, a quiet rivalry has developed between the two nations, though nowadays it’s the kind of rivalry that manifests in the markets and in taverns.
Bristol is ruled by a council of Arls. Seventeen gather at each equinox and solstice to celebrate and discuss law.
