Wox

"Their as wild as any species can get: Tall, muscular creatures, some even capable of ripping sheep apart with their bare hands. No wonder that a Wox pack is a shepperd's worse nightmare."

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Wox are humanoid creatures whose head and limbs share both human and dog-like features. All wox have dog snouts and ears, as well as paws and sharp claws in all limbs.

Genetics and Reproduction

The wox take aproximatly 12 years to fully grow. All wox have a "heat season" in which their sexual instincts become enhanced, making them more sexually active. The wox give birth to two, three or four cubs at a time. Their average lifespan is around 82 years.

Ecology and Habitats

The wox dwell in temperate climates, although it isn't uncommon to find some wox tribes in the frozen south. They prefer to live with their kin rather than living in an inter-species environment.

Civilization and Culture

Common Myths and Legends

In a large number of Wox tribes, it is impossible to find a coherent creation myth. But, where these do appear they all have certain features in common. Very usual is the idea that the culture hero, be he of human or animal shape, finds himself alone, of with a single companion, floating about in a boat or a raft in a chaos of primeval water. The culture hero, or creator, send animals to dive for earth and, when one finally succeds, he creates the present earth from the bit of soil then secured. After the earth is created, the culture hero sometimes creates a second culture hero (frequently coyote, who is conceived of having both human and animal form) or another human hero. Coyote proceeds to create wox, from clay or wood, and gives life to him. Later, he creates the animals and arranges all the affairss of the earth as they now are.
