Telebessir

The once-great capital of the once-great civilization of Televassa. The city is a ruin, an archaeological goldmine, frozen deep beneath the surface of the Sea of Frost, trapped by an ancient feud that ended an ocean-spanning nation.

Defences

Aside from its location in the middle of the ocean, and the Sentry which stalked the seas around it, historical records indicate that Telebessir had a great, expansive machine beneath its streets, almost as big as the city itself, which could have wiped out the combined elven-human armies before the war even began. It is said that the freezing of the Sea of Frost, which mangled the inner workings of this submarine device, was the only thing that prevented Televassa from still controlling all of Earhion today. In some scholarly circles, it is rumored that parts of this mysterious device can still be accessed, if one is brave enough.

Industry & Trade

Telebessir was a hub of sea trade, although it is uncertain what was actually traded there. It is assumed that gold and gems flowed through the city, due to the prominence of gold and jewels in the decorations of the parts of the city that have been uncovered.

Infrastructure

Telebessir had advanced power generators that made use of the currents and burned strange tar-like fuels, transferring power through great cables that ran beneath the city's paved streets, alongside its expansive sewers. It was a hub for travel in its day, rising directly out of the water, and as such had advanced shipyards, some of which had devices for lifting ships right out of the water, and naturally numerous bridges.

History

Sometime in the early 1680's BM, construction began on the framework of the city. The previous capital city was the city-state of Televassa, on Sintava, which had suffered heavy infrastructural damages during the wars that had led to Televassa's conquest of the island. Construction of the capital was finished around 1570 BM, and the city of Televassa was completely abandoned by the late 1560's. It thrived as a center of industry and politics for centuries. Sometime around 1440, the city was attacked by the Sentry, but it was somehow pacified or made peace with, and the defense device was never activated. In 1410, Televassa destroyed the largest of the three elven-human colonies in Earhion. The immediate response was threefold, sparking the relatively short war that completely wiped Televassa off the map. However, the initial way that the colonists fought back was through the channeling of an immense spell. The seas around Telebessir froze solid for miles and miles around, trapping ships and submarines. With no way to receive food from the outside and no way to fish, the Telebessites began to starve and flee in droves across the ice. Telebessir was doubly crippled, as parts of its great defense device had been underwater, and the flash-freeze had either crippled or completely destroyed them. Other parts of the city, also damaged by the flash-freeze, began to crumble without the proper crews to maintain it, and as the ice and snow slowly overtook it over the next few decades, some of its larger towers and outcroppings began to break off and fall into the sea or into the city, further damaging it. By the late 1150's, the city had been completely covered by snow from the constant blizzards, and by 1100, the snow had been packed into hard ice.

Architecture

Telebessir is a marvel of ancient architecture, made primarily of steel and glass. Its towers rose into the sky and descended deep into the ocean, with walkways high above sea level and glass tunnels at the very bottom of the ocean. It was neither utilitarian nor gaudy in its construction, managing to look good while still being primarily functional, with complex metallic devices built into every inch of the walls, roads, and even windows.
