Zedaric Knight

The Knights of Zedara believe in chivalry and those who take upon knighthood must swear upon oaths in the witness of gods and men. A knight is a soldier trained in the arts of warefair and is sworn his oath to a Lord or noblemen. While anyone can become a knight simply by reciting the oath in the presence of another knight to knight them and a Stasori. They can only be knighted by one who is already a knight. It's expected that a Knight is to train from twelve to twenty to become a fully trained knight.
Under Zedaric law, Children are legally adults by age twelve and if they are a lord, they may rule their castle. Although culturally they are still a child in the eyes of many and wouldn't be often married until at least fifteen. It is this reason that children being their training to become a knight at age twelve. For this time, they are a squire to another knight.

Squirehood

From ages twelve to eighteen, is when a squire is trained to become a knight. Although this age can vary from one knight to the next. In rare cases, one might be knighted at fourteen or twenty. While the military aspect of knightly training included gerd riding, swordsmanship, archery, spear fighting, hunting, and swimming. They also trained in the courtly duties including how to address nobility, songs and poems, history, and religion. However, most knights who studied the courtly duties would include noblemen and the occasional female knight. During the time of Training as a squire, they'd be given housing by the Lord if they can spare it and they were paid a silver a day.
It was said that although Lady Lisan was not legally a knight under Zedaric Law, she was trained in the skills of battle like many knights are. After Lisan's Rebellion and the founding of Lisani, she made it legally for any woman or orc who wishes to become a knight, although few woman pursue this career as it is still very socially unacceptable.

The Knight's Oath

A knight must swear a holy vow before another knight and a stasori as witness. The following oath can be found here Knight's Oath Generally, as apart of this oath, the knight will swear to serve a specific person or house. The most common vow is to the lord who trained you. However, some knights swear only an oath to the gods and serve no lords. This is known as a Knight-Errant or a Lordless Knight. A knight may also become a knight after the death of the noble house they serve or if sent into exile for a crime. Their reputation can change from either a step above a sellsword, or a romantic hero from songs.

Tenents of Knighthood

  • A knight must know Duty. To refuse or abandone one's lord would be dishonorable and punishable by death. A knight must always follow the commands of their Lord.
  • A knight must know Honesty. A knight shall not lie, and since this, whatever they say, must be a promise. A knight however may hide certain truths, but cannot lie of them.
  • A knight must know Valor. A knight is expected to be brave and face death with courage. For if a knight cannot be brave, then they cannot keep their oaths in times of need.
  • A knight must know Honor. Even to the vilest of foes, they should be granted a merciful death. There is no place for cruelty in the heart of a Knight.
  • A knight must know Generosity. If a knight has two swords, and a friend has none. They should grant their fellow their other sword.
