Hon-shu of Xian
Hon-shu is widely accepted to be the largest building in Ealam. A massive feat of not only Geomancy, but also design, architecture and foresight. Originally a palace for the Emporer of Terr'Aina , it now serves as a center for just about everything in Xian. Xian was once the capital, but is now one of the most largely populated cities of Terr'aina. It remains a center for architecture, trade, the Earthworn, and agriculture. A massive indoor market occupies the front areas of Hon-shu, with the rear wings being places of academic and Earthworn study.
Hon-shu is less so a building or landmark then an entire area, a feat that is accomplished through architectural genius and ancient magic. Even for those from the Kaiyocean Precinct's coral towers, or Baraea School of Learning and Magi-Mechanics, Hon-shu occupies more space than can initially be imagined. While in the former two locations, one might fear getting turned around or lost, in Hon-shu one might stray too far into a rarely-visited area and be in a very real survival situation. This is rarely the case, as the layout is also subtly designed to keep visitors on track, using shape language and lighting. Hon-shu is also far from a sanitary, lifeless library or temple. Many places are open to light, have vegetation, or bustle with business and talk. The beautiful courtyards, 39, to be exact, are almost as famous as Hon-shu's size, and are carefully maintained by staff. Speaking of staff, it is just as varied and large as Hon-shu itself. Many spirits, some unfathomably old take residence in Hon-shu, and take up clerical or janitorial work. Earthworn have a longstanding relation and obligation to maintain Hon-shu, and about a quarter of people working in Hon-Shu will be Earthworn apprentices. Hon-shu also hires many who end up staying for an extended amount of time, as this arrangement supports those who still might be searching for something in it's depths, and itself.
