The Paramour

The Goddess of Love

The Paramour is incredibly similar in many of their cultural variations- so much so that even the every day person might know of their other names. They also have several Exarchs that are worshiped as love deities and often mistaken for her. Many temples and altars will be labeled as Khalil / Sylanna for example. This deity is always known for their unfathomable beauty and usually depicted as a woman or androgenous figure. They are generally involved in the the love lives of mortals and the culprit of many dramatic romance-based myths. To most they are a somewhat minor deity compared to most others because they fill a small and specific niche. Still, they are so widely worshiped world-wide that he or she actually has a great measure of power- even if they are rarely someone's Main Deity. This deity is considered scandalous in some societies, and those looking for love are directed towards The Mother, who is the patron of marriage and 'responsible' romantic unions. Though most often considered female, many cultures believe they show themselves to their worshipers in whatever guise they find the most attractive and can appear as any sex or gender.   This deity has two Exarchs that are widely worshiped as goddesses- Sylanna of the elves and Goewyn of the halflings. This deity is the source of their powers.

Khalil of the Common Pantheon

Domains: Life, Twilight, Trickery   Portfolio: Love, Desire, Romance, Beauty, Matchmaking   Alignment: NG   Alias/s: The Temptress   Symbols: Orchid, Womans Head   Khalil is the goddess of love, desire, and beauty. Some associate her with the elvish goddess Sylanna, but Khalil does not have a backstory that is in any way similar and she is considered less chaotic and morally gray. She is prayed to by those who seek to find true love and is less known for inciting romantic drama to entertain herself. She does have associations with brothels and adulterers. Unlike Medeh, who is the goddess of marriage, family and hearth, Khalil is the goddess of passionate love and of lust. She is the ultimate match-maker who ties strings of fated love between two strangers. She is also a punisher of abusive lovers, rapists, and human traffickers. Those who would use love and beauty to inflict pain often find themselves victim to her wrath. To her and her followers, love is divine and pure, not to be tarnished or used in profane ways. That is not to say she is against those who seek only pleasure with multiple partners or who fear commitment- as long as these escapades do not result in a long string of remorseless heartbreaking. Physical desire is a fully natural thing and Khalil is not out to police such things, as long as it is consensual and not being used as a weapon.

Worshipers

Worshipers of The Paramour are usually the every day person and usually at the time of their life when they are young and lovelorn. People looking for soulmates, romantic partners, or who are working in brothels or on street corners compose the majority. There are many Bards, artists, and other entertainers as well who worship this deity. Noble's and courtiers who are often caught up in torrid affairs and romantic drama may also keep a special altar to them. Clerics, paladins, and monks are rare, however. The Paramour is likely to have altars in brothels and gardens, but very rarely does she have proper temples dedicated to her unless the temple is also being used as a house of pleasure. Temples to love and marriage are usually run by churches of The Mother. There are some temples dedicated to the both of them.   On-Brand Worshipers
