The General

The Deity of War

The General is the deity of warfare- very specifically warfare. They are not the deity necessarily of combat or bloodshed- those are the results of war. The General is the deity even more specifically of strategic warfare, as opposed to chaotic barbaric campaigns. They are a deity of logistics and troop movement and soldier training and espionage. To some they are the deity who causes war, but most see them in a more favorable light as the god who ends it- on the worshiper's side of course. They are also often gods of leadership, kings, rulers, generals, and all those who have to make the difficult decisions for the greater good or just the survival of the majority. They are an orderly god and to most also a god of loyalty and duty.   This deity has one Exarch that is widely worshiped as a god by the Elves- Dalanis. This deity is the source of their power.

Ghoeth of the Common Pantheon

Domains: War, Order, Forge   Portfolio: Strategic Warfare, Cunning, Discipline, Leadership, Charisma, Glory   Alignment: LN   Alias/s: The General, Father of War   Symbols: Sword & Eye, Clover   Ghoeth is an incredibly ancient human deity- the only human-originating deity that some consider to have been originally a mortal. According to myth, he was a great general and one of the first human kings. He conquered and assimilated many tribes into one massive group and settled one of the earliest permanent human settlements through guidance from Danha. He successfully kept other barbaric tribes and people from sacking their budding new city and was viewed almost as a god by his people due to his combination of physical prowess, intellect, and natural charisma. He is worshiped primarily in wartime and is seen as the god of strategy and victory. He is worshiped mainly by those pulling the strings, and though this is largely people in powerful political positions, it also includes leaders of rebel groups, raiders, and small city militias as well as soldiers with ambition and civilians praying for peaceful resolution and an end to war.

Halthan of the Dwarvish Pantheon

Domains: War, Protection, Order   Portfolio: Hunting, War, Protection   Alignment: LG   Alias/s: The Warbringer   Symbols: Warhammer & Shield   Halthan is the daughter of Oroh and Mavrin, sister of Thodar, Maluth, and Dolbrek. Halthan is the goddess of War and Protection. She is especially worshiped by many dwarven guards and soldiers but she does not get the level of worship that she once did in more tumultuous times. It has been a great many centuries since dwarf-kind participated in any large wars in the world. As a result, she has become far more associated with the protection of dwarves and their mines and strongholds than her original portfolio of strategic warfare. She has a lot of associations now with general combat as well as hunting among hill dwarves and dwarves who have been assimilated into the eastern or western Tribes. She is still highly worshiped by the dwarves of Khuzen Gorah who are fighting to maintain their hold in the northern Andun Mountains. Halthan was originally locked into a four-way duel with Maluth, Thodar and Dolbrek- the winner of which would become the deity best suited for the portfolio of War- and Halthan succeeded handily in defeating her brothers, though Maluth gave her the biggest fight. She has become a special patron of female warriors, dwarven or not. Without the aggressive ideals of the church of Halthan, it is likely dwarven society would have followed into the patriarchal footsteps of many human societies that prefer women to remain at home caring for family. Owing to the fact that their ultimate deity of war and combat is female, it would make no sense for all female dwarves to simply follow in motherly Mavrin's footsteps. Halthan's greatest enemy is now her former rival, Maluth, who has become a deity of Tyranny and prime deity of the Duergar. Their respective worshipers are often locked in battle as the Duergar make attempts at conquering dwarven strongholds. She has never forgiven him for his victory in sacking the dwarven kingdom of Andun.

Worshipers

Worshipers of the General tend not to be from the average everyday citizen unless their country happens to be in the middle of a war. Instead, most of their followers tend to be people in government positions- particularly in the areas of warfare and protection of the realm. This can be a king or other noble's whose responsibilities lie in navigating foreign affairs or they could be members of a governing council in charge of making these decisions. Sometimes it's the actual general worshiping a general. Many fighters, knights, marines and soldiers who are on the front lines or the most likely to end up on the battlefield worship the General in hopes that they will be on their side during the conflict. This can include anyone involved, even war bards and military physicians. Even some barbarians, given that they are participating in traditional well-planned warfare, can be followers of the general. There are clerics and paladins of the General, naturally. Monks- not so much. They are one of the more common deities known to have chosen ones or aasimar out into the world to enact their will- often they end up glorious military leaders or even rulers. The general is generally a neutral party, and in fact this sometimes means there are people who worship them for smaller scale wars- such as gang warfare or wars between organizations. Criminal masterminds have been known to keep an altar to this deity. Also assassins & scouts who work in service to a kingdom or ruler.   On-Brand Worshipers
