Among most good people of Krynn, Mesalax the Midwife—commonly known in non-dwarven lands as Mishakal—is worshipped as “The Healer.” In pre-Cataclysm days, she was the most revered of the ministering gods, with many temples that taught the art of healing. Nearly every community in Ansalon had a priest of Mesalax to tend to the populace’s health. Since the return of the true gods during the War of the Lance, the reconstituted Priesthood of Mesalax the Midwife is working to renew this custom.   During the War of the Lance, she earned other appellations: “Light Bringer,” “Bearer of Light,” and “Quen IIlumini.” These names reflect the fact that it was The Blue Lady who revealed the true gods to a world in darkness. The legendary Disks of Mishakal, a set of platinum disks engraved with knowledge of the Gods of Balance, brought this revelation in tangible form to the people of Krynn. Since then, her priesthood has understandably boomed.   The God Mother is the wife and advisor of Malleus the Hammer, chief of the Gods of Order. The couple has twin sons, Kitlin Fishtaker and Kijo the Blade, as well as a third and younger son named Solinari. Gentle and compassionate, she seeks to heal ills and minister to all creatures through her servants on Krynn. Her gentleness should not be confused with weakness, however, for The Midwife touches every corner of Krynn with her power. If that power were ever roused to anger, she would doubtless prove unstoppable.   Mesalax, like her husband Maleus, manifested herself during the War of the Lance. She desires only to heal the wounded land and recruit compassionate priests to become new healers. These activities put her and her followers in direct conflict with Morgax the Rustlord and his worshippers.

Duties of the Priesthood

A priest of The God Mother seeks out those who are ill and heals them. Though some priests charge a nominal fee for healing spells, she demands that priests not overcharge or withhold healing from those who cannot afford it.
