Foods & Cuisine
Meals are moments of relaxation in the harsh lives of Mekiesh people. Most meals are had lying down or right after a bath. The temperate climate and fertile fields allow for cultivation of wheat, grapes, apples, artichokes, broccoli, asparagus, cucumbers, sunflowers and various nuts. Cows, chickens, and bees are the most common animals. Pepper, laurel, poppy, and salt from the marshes are used to flavor food. Mead and wine are quite popular and inexpensive, with whole cities built around wine businesses.
Common Customs, traditions and rituals
A person's social rank is determined by different tattoos gained throughout their lives. Tattoos represent all aspects of their lives: coming of age, profession, social rank, unions, etc. Whenever someone is arrested and convicted or dishonored, their tattoos are either crossed out or they are tattooed across their forehead as a sign of shame.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
Athletic builds and tanned skin are a sign of rigorous training and seen as attractive across genders.
Relationship Ideals
Mekiesh culture being strongly tied to notions of family, it is through the birthing parent that descendance is determined. As such, those with gestational capabilities are generally more prudent with their choice of mate, favoring those who could not get them pregnant, and choosing reproductive partners based on skill and political influence. In some communities, casual sex without means of infertility is seen as reckless, while others encourage the tolerance of sensuality and erotism in public spaces, trying to reroute desire through other forms of sexuality.
