The Academy

The Mages' Academy of Vatalli, often referred to as the Academy, is one of the core pillars of the city.

Purpose / Function

Wizards within the city of Vatalli  are expected to register with the Academy. Training in the arcane arts is granted, but, in return, wizards are expected to serve for the defense of the city against magical threats. 
The Academy maintains a series of magic defenses around the city, including the Dragonward, which blocks the entry of true dragons into the city proper. The Dragonward is controlled through the Dragonstaff.

Architecture

The Academy was built by a human mage almost a millennia ago, although successive generations of patrons have expanded it. The architecture is based on the ancient elven temples of Kimula. The Academy contains many classrooms, laboratories, an observatory, and an extensive library. Access to the inner grounds of the Academy is restricted to registered mages.

History

The Academy is overseen by the Duca di Magi. The current Duca di Magi is Viola Sacramenti. She was appointed by the High Lord, Lucia Platamani. She is young and some older wizards are disgruntled at her rise to power. The Duca wields the traditional staff of their office.
