Anatomy

Dark Elves have dark grey or black skin, white hair, and red eyes. Dark Elven women are physically stronger and larger than Dark Elven men.

Dark Elven society is matriarchal. Leaders of their cities and their priesthood are women. Men typically go into arcane and martial roles.

History

The Dark Elves were originally Moon Elves of the Mithral Empire who colonized the Underdark. The colonization was spurred in rivalry with the ancient Dwarven Empire. Centuries of living in the depths of the world corrupted both the Elves and the Dwarves with the evil of Kirbarir. The elves of the Underdark became Dark Elves. The Dark Elves rebelled against the Mithral Empire, with the war eventually leading to the collapse of the Empire. 
Since then, the Dark Elves have continued growing through the Underdark and adapting to subterranean life. They often fight between themselves, but they are a threat to the surface world. Dark Elves have been known to raid surface settlements for slaves. Due to the uncharted and dangerous nature of the Underdark, the nations of the surface have difficulty in exacting retribution.
