Legends of Dugond - Book III

These are troubling times for Dugond. The once good and just leader of the human nation of Dalasur, King McKinney the Ageless, has turned the Concordat of Tomorrows on it's head, moving troops into both Suria and Egova in an attempt to bring the former colonies back under the banner of a single, united fatherland. Burning everything they can't carry, the Templar, under the cold gaze of the king's own Praetorian Judges, are forcing peasant and noble alike to heel under the order of the Crown. Witnessing this injustice firsthand, Adventurers have made way to the College of the Arcane Order, a well-known neutral fortress of learned temperance. From this safe haven, amidst the other recovering refugees, they plan to strike out on the next leg of their journeys.

    Silence from the Salt Mines
    Disaster / Destruction

    News arrives to the collective royalty of Sull that one of their most Holy Sites: the Salt Mines of Yao, have been silent and no one has returned from them in a weeks time. The local guards have been unsuccessful in finding a cause, let alone any survivors. Gladen Lavamane, king of Sull, decrees that a champion will be found and a tournament held to reward the best and brightest for application.

    The Clearing of the Cellar

    In exchange for audience, Archmage Regillix tasks a party to clear out the ancient and sealed college cellars. In doing so, they come across a maintained Dalasurian weapons cache as well as encountering and dispatching a squatting Green Hag by the name of Nana Spiddle. Amidst her effects was a letter congratulating her success at infiltrating the college, signed only with an "S".

    Mystery of the Mayor: Part 1

    With their new knowledge of the cellars, they tell the Archmage of their findings. Being bound by neutrality, Regillix suggests news of this should also be given to the Mayor. A local magistrate informs the party the Mayor had ridden to a neighboring village 3 days earlier but was due back yesterday, offering payment for checking up on him or his whereabouts in the town of Silverton. Gaining steeds and setting off, the party hurries north, evidence suggesting were-creature are involved and suspecting the mayor himself has a foul ulterior motive.

    A large firebomb detonates at the heart of the Mayor's manor, sending debris as far as the eastern market. The home is completely destroyed; no bodies are found.

    Mystery of the Mayor: Part 2

    Investigators and passer-bys arrive at the scene of the explosion. With guards too busy keeping back rubberneckers to get to the home, a party quickly forms. Looking though the ruins for survivors as well as for anything advantageous, they end up finding a set of Dark Elvish daggers between them and in odd, hidden spots. Making their way to the center of the blast's origin, they find a tunnel underneath where the foyer of the home would have been, leading them into the cellars of the nearby college. Fending of Warp Lampreys in the hovel, they manage across the remains of Nana Spiddle as well as patrolling College Guards.

    The Gambling House

    With the daggers the only solid lead, the party heads to The Haggard Wench, the local gambling den, in an effort to ask some questions as well as get some money for provisions; The trip Northeast to the Underdark is a long one. As it does in places such as these, things quickly devolve into fisticuffs, the party being forced to flee as the guards respond to the commotion. With enough gold in hand to get started and a solid goal in mind, the party purchases horses and heads north with the stablemaster himself Buttram, meaning to perhaps sell equipment or services along the way.

    Arriving in Silverton
    Expedition

    The party arrives in Silverton, an old mining colony halfway between Thornmoor and the Silvermist Forest. With worries of Goblin raids on the lips of the townsfolk, the party volunteers to check out the town's long-abandoned silver mine, immediately finding out the truth of the raids; the goblins are being blackmailed into service by a gang of were-rats and the party feels that this is prime grounds for the mayor's involvement.

    The Sullian Royal Combat Tournament
    Sporting Event / Competition

    Under a fictitious name and with plans to favor the local King, the party signs up for the tournament-of-arms. More than holding their own in the tests of strength and skill, some sort of calamity is created amidst a shared revel-fueled blackout. Unknown why they were outcast from the festivities of the Royal Tent and with a few games to go, the party managed with aid to place their champion 3rd, and in doing so are given the honorable task of riding north to the holy Salt Mines of Yao to investigate a dread mystery in exchange for the dwarven princess' hand.

    The Plundering of Khundrukar
    Expedition

    The party enters Blasingdell, a city three days march from the abandoned dwarven redoubt of Khundrukar. Hired by the Mayor to find any artifacts within the old fortress, they discover it has been occupied by an orc war-party, lead by someone named "The Great Ulfe". Making their way inside, they find the entrance to the fort well-defended.

    Construction beginning/end

    The legendary fortress of Khundrukar has begun construction for the first time in hundreds of years. Men, elves, dwarves and orcs work together to begin renovating the redoubt in preparation for the Winter Solstice Festival thanks to the generous donations of the local lord Duke Echum and his cohort.
