Elf

by Winter Gremory

The elves of Drintera are a humanoid lineage. Adults stand anywhere from 5’8” to 6’2” with skin tones and body types across a similar diversity to that of humans, depending on the conditions of their birth and upbringing. Despite these similarities, elves do have distinct features including longer pointed ears and elongated fingers and toes. Their lifespan is also approximately double that of a human’s, with some elves living a little over 200 years.

Elven Empathy

All elves possess an enhanced sense of empathy, able to read the emotions of those around them at a glance. While uncontrollable at a young age, elves learn to focus this ability with time, turning a deluge of emotional impressions into actionable information based on the individuals’ specific training.

Sleeplessness

Rather than sleeping, elves rest and recover via entering a meditative trance that allows them to remain somewhat aware of their surroundings. During this time, they gain a general sense of the “emotional tone” of their environment, such as a bustling excitement from a city center or the calm serenity of an open plateau.

Rules Integration

If your game system gives characters special abilities based on lineage, elven empathy might manifest as a bonus to social interactions, a resistance to trickery and deception, or even, for some characters, an affinity with animals. Not every elf develops their natural empathy to a level that has noticeable game benefits.
