Dunefolk

Orcs of the Ruinlight Desert in Dramigar

written by Winter Gremory
May your wells never run dry and your ancestors lend you their strength.

—common Dunefolk blessing

The Ruinlight Desert is home to a race of clever crafters, brilliant historical scholars, and powerful warriors. These people, the Dunefolk, are Orc descendants of a once-great empire that stretched across the sands, but now exists only as ruined architecture and ancient texts. Whether residing in the shadow of greatness or traversing the harsh sands in nomadic camps, Dunefolk bear the legacy of their gloried past with grace and humility, living their lives in service to their communities and forgoing personal prestige. Not even death can end this honorable devotion: Dunefolk practice a form of necromancy that allows the spirits of their dead to communicate through items crafted from their ashes, providing a vehicle for the fallen to carry on assisting their comrades until the magic used to bring them back inevitably fades. While this orcish culture is rarely seen outside of its native lands, Dunefolk merchants have been known to travel to greener places, offering their services to outsiders in exchange for resources they then use to better the lives of those who remain among the sands.
