Kyosaurus

The Kyosaurus is a massive T-Rex type dinosaur that lives in remote places and caves on Janshima island. The Kyosaurus is omnivorous due to its massive size and thus survives off the bodies of the large creatures that live on Janshima island, as well as fruits to supplement its diet. Primarily however, the Kyosaurus enjoys the fat and muscle ratio of the Tricerators and will hunt them down without a second thought.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Kyosauruses greatly resemble the T-Rex with a few exceptions. Kyosaurs have longer arms to reach targets around their bodies, and to help them maneuver in and out of their resting caves. Kyosaurs also have very long tails, used to whip at any attackers in cases they are being attacked by multiple targets or they cannot reach whomever is attacking them. On their feet, Kyosaurs have one massive talon they can use to dig into the ground or piece their prey if they are using their feet as their weapon of choice in that particular hunt. On the hands of the Kyosaurus are massive talons, again used for hunting. Kyosuars have sharp spikes that stick out in a line from the crown of their head to the mid part of their backs. Finally, all Kyosauruses have over 40 sharp teeth for biting into their prey and attacking their foes.

Genetics and Reproduction

A Kyosaurus reproduces with his or her mate one offspring at a time, and one female Kyosaur will only ever have no more than two offspring her entire life. Due to the sheer size of the Kyosaurus and slow reproduction rate, the Kyosaur males are polygamous and do not bother staying around the Kyosaur female after having intercourse.

Growth Rate & Stages

A newborn Kyosaurus, no matter the biological sex, remains with or near their mother for the first two years of their life. It is during this time that the baby Kyosaur is weakest and must vulnerable, as it is not until they reach their third year that they will have fully developed muscles, eyesight, and smell.   After hitting age three, the Kyosaur will then begin to routinely leave their mother and begin hunting the forest areas around the cave or nesting area their mother defends. Despite being mature enough to defend itself, it is at this point the young Kyosaur is most likely to be killed, as they lack hunting and defending experience. For all intents and purposes, it is during the age 3 - 10 that a Kyosaurus must learn how to be a Kyosaurus, and vastly on their own too.   At age five, the young Kyosaur's mother usually has moved on to live an independent life apart from her offspring, leaving only the nesting ground or cave behind for the young Kyosaur.   After several years, around age 10, the Kyosaurus is now considered a fully grown adult and has enough knowledge to successfully survive in its environment for the rest of its life, thus leaving its nesting ground in search for a mate and, if it is a female, a new place to rear a new offspring.   Most Kyosauruses live 30 - 45 years, unless it is somehow killed before age 10.

Ecology and Habitats

Kyosauruses are only known to live on the large island, Janshima. Janshima is a tropical island with abundant wildlife, dense tropical forests, and various indigenous/non-indigenous humanoids.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Kyosuaruses consume both meat and fruits. Often, the Kyosuarus will not even bother with anything smaller than 5 feet, as such a creature is simply not worth their time. This does mean, however, the Tricerators make one of their most prized eats. Also due to their size, the Kyosauruses consume both fruits and the entire tops of trees with the fruit; however, the Kyosaurus has no acids in their stomach to process leaves or bark, so often they pass these annoyances whole.

Biological Cycle

The most peculiar thing about the Kyosaurus, is that it actually has long hibernation periods. Due to its large size, vicious need to eat, and the fact it lives on an island, the Kyosaurus will spend two months hibernating and one month active. This hibernation period will always occur in a cave unless it is a mother and her offspring, and there is no near cave available. In this case, the Kyosaurus will pick out a very shaded area in the forests to safely sleep with her offspring, sleeping lighter than her baby to keep a watchful eye on the area around their nesting ground. This comes at a great boon for all living species on the island, as the Kyosaurus needs a lot of food to sustain its size.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Male Kyosauruses are usually dominant and solitary, wandering aimlessly around the island in search of shelter, food, and a mate. On average, a male Kyosaur is 55 -65ft.   Female Kyosauruses are usually brash and territorial, often finding a place to stay close to for when she becomes pregnant, only to then find a new home after her offspring is fully grown. Due to the very lower number of Kyosauruses, the female Kyosaurus does not really resist the wandering dominant males, and she will allow them to mate with her, unless she is either pregnant or rearing an offspring.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Kyosauruses are only known to be found on Janshima Island, and though they are VERY rare to find, they are least likely to be found around Mt Old Tyrant and the surrounding area.

Average Intelligence

Kyosauruses are very intelligent, but not sapient. They can stalk prey, fool pursuers, and weigh their chances at winning a fight, but they act more so instinctively and have no known self reflection.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Kyosaureses have two terrifying common traits in perception and sensory. Due to their extremely high height, all Kyosaurs have eagle-strength eyesight. On average, a Kyosaur can see its target in clear vision for several miles away... This does not always prove handy while the Kyosaur is in the tight, crowded tropical forests of Janshima island, and in compensation for those times, the Kyosauruses also have one of the best senses of smell. A Kyosaur can always smell its target from distances at about half its eyesight range.

Kyosaurus

The Kyosaurus is a massive carnivorous dinosaur, native to Janshima Island. It stands at anywhere from 40-65 feet tall and tends to have very few predators it has to worry about. As such, it only ever has one or two children over its entire lifespan of anywhere between 30-45 years. It is the bane to the existence of the Tricerators, and they are its only real threat.
