Session 11
General Summary
On the morning of the 26th of Juhd'Hon, the party made their way over to Carmine's to have a nice chat with Diavolo. Rani bought a round of mimosas, giving Diavolo a nice tankard. Diavolo warned the party of going too far out to sea, but didn't seem too worried about them leaving to hunt monsters - so long as Thanatos went with them.
Having arrived at the docks, the Deep End quickly realized that none of them have any experience sailing. However, Sidon happened to spot some familiar faces and they were more than willing to help our their prince and his friends.
After seeing signs of "slopping eating", the party chummed the water and watched as 3 fields of electrical current approached. These long, segmented eel-like creatures pulsed with faint electricity as they closed in onto the chum. Moira, without hesitation, jumped right into the water and then promptly sank 40 feet to the bottom. While Newt and Sidon closed in on the creatures, Rani and The Widow chose to get comfortable on the stern of the boat and simply "snipe" from afar. After a couple of close calls - shadows seem to like Newt - the carcass of one of the ampeels was successfully hauled on board and many of the electrical barbs harvested.
As the sun set and the moon rose over the bay, the party found a pair of large membrane bound crab squids. Catching them by surprise, the Deep End was able to kill them with ease, hauling their deflated bodies on board. Of course, Moira - at the party's encouragement - attempted to swim again, but promptly sank, slowing sliding down the anchor where she waited to be hauled back out of the water.
Upon returning to port, the party crammed Cali's cold cabinet with ampeel meat as Moira hoped to learn how to make sushi from the chef at Dragolée. Most of the monster components were sold to Chaos Reigns. Auntie Four seemed pleased and offered to teach The Widow a alchemic brew. While the Widow learned a new potion, Rani sat with Bella Five to receive her second tattoo.
Newt and Moira went on another stealthy escapade through the city. After knocking on the back door of Dragolée and getting no response, Moira decided to just waltz right in. Inside, she found an incredibly large and busy kitchen, with a least a dozen chefs prepping food, cooking a variety of dishes, and preparing food for service. Newt noticed one particular chef, an elderly elven woman with a blue and teal pseudo-dragon perched on her shoulder. Lingering outside, the two were confronted by the head chef. In response to Moira's request to learn from her, the head chef somewhat agreed. When Moira and her friends arrive for their reservation, Moira will be cooking to prove whether or not she's worthy to learn.
The party headed to the Temple in the afternoon and found the High Priestess was absent, having taken Portia to the Guild Council meeting. Rani found Zephus in one of the open rooms in the Temple, his easel set up overlooking the Bay. He seems very excited to see what the swarms paint in the future and hearing that he inspired them seemed to mean a lot. He is very appreciative of Rani's willingness to help him with his "issue". It seems Zephus is not a legitimate child and removing the scales seems to be tied with his concept of family acceptance. Erwin still seems to be present a the Temple, but was unwilling to risk leaving the building until Diavolo is no longer in the city.
After leaving the temple, Thanatos immediately approached, leading the Deep End quickly towards Carmine's. The tension within the building could be felt before the door even opened. Inside, all of the regulars were wedged into tables along the edge of the room, far away from the booths lining the wall. Diavolo's large form could be seen, seemingly in some form of arm wrestling match with another figure out of view. His eyes were narrowed, toothpick threatening to snap between his teeth as he scowled at his opponent.
Diavolo's opponent - a middle-aged woman - called off their fight, attention shifting to the approaching party. It seems that this retired bounty hunter, Denarya, is trying to cash in on a favor Diavolo owes her, but he seems loathe to give it. The issue: information has arrived on a bounty... one that's listed dead or alive.
Diavolo wants the bounty dead, but Denarya needs them alive. She's got reason to believe this bounty can help her find her missing daughter...
