Greenhollow

Down in the forest where the tall trees grows,
Red and green, she grows like a rose,
She grows, she grows, she grows so sweet,
In the Forest she shall stay as long as she lives.

  • Part of an old Scottish folksong, believed to talk about the Seann Uaine, or Greenhollow

  • Greenhollow (Scots: Seann Uaine, "Old Green") is a temperate rainforest in the eastern Highlands of Scotland, near the mountain range of The Cairngorms. This unique natural habitat is a place of many legend, and still leaves the mundane researchers to scratch their heads due to their inability to explain, how such a forest became to grow in such an unlikely place. Indeed, the Greenhollow Forest seems to have an microclimate of its own, with vegetation that does not survive anywhere else in Scotland. For the Fae, Greenhollow is a place of unpredictable magic, a place where one should not wander in without a good reason.

    Geography

Greenhollow is a rich forest, resembling most closely the Atlantic oakwoods. It is a home for ancient oak, ash, birch, hazel and Scots pine, as well as a luscious floor of mosses, liverworts, lichens, fungi and ferns, some of which cannot be found anywhere else in Britain. The trees seem to grow exceptionally tall and wide around the Greenhollow area, and the closed canopy excludes most of the sky.
The visitors of the forest report that everything is very green, in a way they cannot fully explain. Its almost like one can taste, smell and even sense the greenness around them.

    History

Greenhollow is and ancient forest. Some researchers believe it is a part of the great Caledonian forest, while others disagree.
For those in the know of the arcane world, Greenhollow is a weird liminal space, somewhere between the mundane and The Faerie Wilds .
