The Marionette Report
General Summary
Each of the adventurers arosed in the morning after having a restless night haunted by dark dreams. They gather down stairs to have breakfeast and discuss the latest events that were endured the previous few days they have spent in the northernlands of Barovia. The owner of The Seven Tables, Marku, asks the group to help find his nephew, who ventured out on a supply run to Vallaki after the weather broke. They hadn't heard from the individual, and he should have returned by now. Naturally, the advenuterers, quickly becoming known as "The Fanged and The Furious (TFaTF), agree to go in search of the boy and his wagon.
The party manages to find Vasile, his friend, and a wagon not very far outside of Orasnou. It is becomes apparent that not only did he not make it far, but that he was attacked by something. They attempt to heal Vasile, the sole survivor, but none of the healing works. They quickly load him onto their own wagon and get him back to the village where he is taken to Glovia at the Hospice. Once there Glovia is able to help Vasile, however; she notes that he was attacked by a wight, and believes it to have been Laszlo. This is likely the first time that they realize Laszlo was not just raised from the dead, or mistaken as dead, but that he was changed.
Next the group is summoned to the Burgomaster's home where they are subjected to a reading by a vistani seer of the "Gur" tribe. It is noted that this is a tribe that is unknown in the land of Barovia. The adventurers explore a room in what appears to be a wealthy individual's manor. They meet Isabella, a spirit of Glovia Falinescu's daughter who interacts with them occasionally as they observe the various items around the room.
They aslo experience a haunting event near the end of the vision in which Isabella picks up and opens a silver box that the party recognizes as the same powder box which Arik (aka Laszlo) acquired from the Eyes of Midnight shop. When she does this a figured crashes through the window shattering the serenity of the moment. They notice that thick strings are attached to his arms and legs like a puppet. He grabs the box and strikes Isabella's head from her shoulders.
Next they hear the booming voice of Govia yell, "Bring it to me Laszlo" as Laszlo cuts the strings loose and leaps out the window. The vision is ended abruptly when they discover the village has come under attack for a second time by undead forces.
They see, a very real, Laszlo on the cliffs above the village and he yells, "Glovia! What shall yo do now", and makes a reference to Glovia having betrayed him before he escapes into the night. The party splits up to go and attempt to help the village. Some are successful and others are not successful in the endeavor. Many villagers are lost this night.
The session ended with a trip to Falinescu Manor because Glovia kidnapped a young girl named Sorina in an attempt to raise her own daughter from the dead. As the group explored the manor they learned of the atrocities that Glovia had commented in secret. She not only created her own frankistein monsters, but also dabbled into necromancy. The adventure ends with the group saving Sorina and her father from Glovia. They managed to slay Glovia, but not without a great deal of danger from the ever crumbling home they had to explore to find Glovia.
