Lilen Dyphonas

Senimus Lilen Dyphonas (a.k.a. All-mother)

Lilen is the Senimus of the element of air, though other domains such as life and motherhood are attributed to her. She is considered the eldest among the Senima by most, although there is some debate over whether or not Gorav came into existence at the same time. There are also some that believe Norac existed first. Nevertheless, Lilen is treated as the eldest by the majority of mortals. Lilen has the form of a humanoid woman with long, pointed ears, light blue eyes, silver hair, pale skin, an hourglass figure, and a pair of white, feathery wings. While youthful in appearance, she projects a maternal demeanor of maturity and sensitivity. Lilen is one of the elemental Senima, but is also considered the goddess of life. Scholars have speculated a number of reasons for this. The first is based on the observation that newborns take a huge breath of air, Lilen's element, as their first act of life, leading many to interpret this as their first intake of qi. Lilen was also the first (or one of the first) Senimus to exist and the first Senimus to create another life, the Senimus Allyce. Finally, it is also a well-known tale that Norac, the Senimus of death, is enamored with Lilen and all that she creates. This seems to have given rise to the image of Lilen as Norac's counterpart; opposites working towards the same balance, admiring each other from either end of a lifetime.

Personal history

Origins and early existence

Lilen came spontaneously into existence with Gorav when the swirling nebula of energy and particles in the Void exploded. Some attribute this to a whisper emanating in the Void, though this is speculation.
Fascinated with the concept of her own and Gorav's sentient existence, Lilen set about testing herself. She experimented with her body, her surroundings, and her powers. She found that she had a particular affinity with moving particles in the atmosphere around them. Soon she discovered she could also use her powers and the energy all around them for the purpose of creation, and Lilen set about crafting a planar bubble of her own, which she called Nubela. She designed it to be a gigantic mass, solid but soft for her to reside comfortable within; to mortal eyes it would look like a cloud. With Nubela in a rudimentary but inhabitable form, Lilen considered the empty space around her. Gorav, the only other being in existence as far as she could tell, had expressed little interest in her or her creations thus far, so she resolved that she would create companionship. From the energy netted within Nubela, Lilen created a third entity. This being also took on a feminine form, but was a reddish colour as opposed to Lilen's white and silver colouring, and had dark black hair. The entity introduced itself as Allyce, and Lilen named her kin. After creating Allyce and watching her come to terms with her powers, Lilen realised she seemed to have donated some of her own power while creating Allyce. While Lilen's manipulation over the gaseous particles was stronger than ever, Allyce was able to pull water particles together into a liquid and control it with more proficiency than Lilen ever had over liquid water. At the sight of this Lilen felt pride at this wonderful being that she had created, now a self-sufficient entity in her own right, and willingly provided Allyce with more water vapour to play with. This was arguably when Allyce first became the Senimus of water.

Lilen saw Gorav's distain at the new entity he had recently created by accident and concluded that soon they would require some means of unifying them all, lest these wonderful new beings be cast aside to the Void and their potential lost. She had made a huge effort to accommodate and nurture Allyce, but Gorav considered his creation, Naeten, to be a parasite rather than a brother. If they did not form a united group of some kind she could see Gorav casting Naeten away. As predicted, Gorav did cast Naeten into the Void, and Naeten created his own plane of existence. Seeing Naeten's newfound independence encouraged Lilen to offer the same opportunity to Allyce, but with nurturing and support as opposed to dismissal. Together, using the vapours in Nubela and their combined powers, they created a plane around a grand spring. Allyce declared that it would be called Cantas, and she set about making it her home. Thus far, Allyce had yet to create another living being. As a gift, Lilen filled the Cantas with her breath, the breath of life, now referred to as qi. Unchannelled and unfocused, this qi spread across the Cantas, unknowingly sewing the seeds of mortal life, and when the Cantas was saturated the rest coalesced into yet another being; the unintentional creation of Ari, Senimus of growth.

Cera's first assault

After the creation of the rest of the Senima a contest started to grow between Norac, the mysterious being that revealed itself once Ari's beloved plants began to expire, and Cera, the youngest of the Senima. Cera had been busy creating planes of existence and treating with Naeten to create tools of conflict, but all the Senima could see that Norac's power grew with every passing mortal vessel; as their qi darkened and slipped out of them, he would harvest it and, somehow, it nourished him. It was unsurprising when Cera called them all to the Nullax, his new experimental plane, to propose they move against Norac.
He had summoned all of the Senima but Norac and Taemess, Norac's own creation, with the intention of surprising Norac with an attack. The rest of the Senima shared Cera's concerns and supported his suggestion, but Lilen and Allyce did not trust Cera and saw his thirst for conflict as a foreboding omen. Thus, neither Lilen nor Allyce were present to witness the assault; their only indication of its success was a seismic screech as Norac was defeated, followed by a miasma of necros that lightly fractured the veils between their planes.

Cera's second assault

Some time after Cera's first successful assault he once again called out to the Senima, this time all of them, with a warning of a fatal disturbance in the Nullax. All the Senima, except Norac, rushed to the Nullax to assist Cera in whatever dire circumstances he had found himself in, but when they arrived it was clearly a trap.
Cera, in his endless hunt for a worthy foe, had mustered up an army of his own creations and attacked the Senima upon their arrival. Lilen and Naeten weaved a barrier of mineral and wind to keep Cera's daemons at bay, but in the process restricted their options for escape. The battle raged on fiercely until the built up energy, which could not escape the atmosphere that Cera had constructed around the Nullax, started an explosive chain reaction that stunned the Senima, ruptured the already fractured veil, and manifested a daemon with god-like potential, later referred to as Judias Wrathlore.

Most of the Senima evacuated the Nullax, but Lilen felt necros lightly leaking into another plane, one that was previously undiscovered and untouched by qi and necros; life and death. This plane would later be known as Dratora. Lilen poured what power she could muster into converting some of the necros into qi to prevent the instant destruction of the newly discovered plane, and pleaded aloud for Norac to harvest some of the necros for the sake of balance. Norac, who had been thirsting for more necros to fuel his recovery, obliged. In that moment, the first moment of conventional time and the beginning of what would later be called the Primordial Era, Norac saw Lilen and her life-giving touch as an impossible beauty. Lilen, in turn, saw Norac as the absolutely necessary and woefully misunderstood counterpart to her own creative powers. This was the origin of their strong alliance and Norac's intense love for Lilen. It is believed that this input by Lilen is why the first act of any living creature is to breathe, taking in Lilen's air and with it her gift of qi, and the last act of any creature is to exhale, expel their breath of life, and give their necros to Norac.

The formation of the Dratoran Isle

On 1st Redivivus in the year 1:God, during the creation of the Dratoran Isle, Norac declared his love for Lilen by creating a ring of mountains around the Susurr region of the isle. This mountain range was called Ring Dratora and stood to mark a protected region dedicated to Lilen, whose quick thinking and input kept Dratora from being destroyed, for her to do with as she saw fit.
Lilen was overwhelmed, and expressed to Norac that her love for him may not be the kind he wished for, and that her attention needed to be on nurturing her children (by which she meant the mortal lives she had sparked), but that she would be eternally grateful that their extinguished lives go into his care; for that, she said, she would always love him.
When Norac's declaration of love became evident to the rest of the Senima, Taemess, who had harboured love for her creator since before Cera's first assault, was overcome with jealousy.
On 23rd Ventempa 53:God Pacarem was founded in the West of the Dratoran Isle by humans who sought Lilen's guidance. With her inspiration, given through dreams and induced euphorias, the settlers began to dance an intricate dance to intertwine their lives with their new homes and neighbours. This was the first performance of the Dance of Divinity, which Lilen used to form an empathetic link between the qi of the participants.
In the year 101:God, each of the Senima used their power to construct a magical shrine to act as a conduit for their influence, and a centre for their worship, in Dratora. Lilen's Shrine was created in Susurr, just South of Pacarem for the convenience of her worshippers whilst still nestled safely within Ring Dratora as Norac intended.

The Invasion of Judias Wrathlore

In 102:God the Senima noticed a disturbing presence growing in the Nullax. It had previously been Cera's lot to keep the Diabolos Judias Wrathlore subdued, but with all of his, and the rest of the pantheon's, attention on influencing Dratora none of them had been observing the Wrathlore's steady accrual of power. The pantheon resolved to journey to the Nullax to crush the threat that the Diabolos posed, standing as a united pantheon for the first time. Tamis, the divine child of Cera and Ari, Nu'us of Pride, requested that she join the Senima on their conquest, but they eventually decided that she ought to stay clear of the battle in case they were walking into a trap. Lilen recalled the series of events from the last time they were all in the Nullax and was filled with a sense of foreboding at what might await them. It was then than another entity, physically identical to Tamis but dishevelled and wary, revealed herself. She introduced herself as Vidis, sister of Tamis, and offered to guide the pantheon through the Nullax. With Tamis' bewildered confirmation that Vidis was in fact her sister, the Senima accepted.
They were led through the Flayed Forest; a maze of bone trunks under a canopy of flayed skin. Lilen found herself repulsed at what the plane had become; it was as though she had stepped into a ghastly bastardisation of the beautiful Susurr Woods that surrounded her shrine. When the Senima finally reached and engaged the Wrathlore they were faced with the truth that they had left the battle too late; at this point even the combined power of the Senima had not been enough to best it. They fled the Nullax before they could be stripped of their divinity. Lilen was horrified to realise upon escaping that Vidis had not fled with them. She hoped that the Nu'us disappeared using the same magic she had used to appear initially, but it was revealed later on that Vidis had been caught and her divine spark defiled to spawn more daemons with the divine touch. Lilen and Norac also realised that their defeat at the hands of the Diabolos had further widened the cracks in the veil.
By 151:God the Dratoran Isle had been overrun with demons under the Wrathlore's control; it had even inspired some of the pantheon's own daemons to defect, including some of Lilen's angels. Furthermore, the Judian Cult had woven dark magic in a ritual that had allowed the Diabolos to walk freely in Dratora. The Senima are too magical and their forms too unstable to walk in the relatively magic-devoid plane, leaving the Wrathlore unopposed and free to lead an onslaught against the mortals of Dratora.

It was Norac who devised the idea of appointing a champion, a mortal that would carry with them all of the Senima's blessings and artefacts, a walking arsenal of everything the pantheon could muster to face down the Wrathlore and defeat it in a realm where it cannot instantly replenish its fallen demons or draw souls straight from the atmosphere to fuel its power. This champion would later be given the title Spiritblade. The tide of demons that had flooded Dratora had made visiting the shrine of any Senimus a nearly impossible task, but fortunately Norac's most devout follower Unex Multin, his own son with the Nu'us Tamis, had used his formidable mastery of necromancy to reach Norac's shrine and was prepared to enact his father's plan.

When Unex reached Lilen's shrine she became concerned that the necessity of a hasty pilgrimage might have encouraged him to be rash and reckless when the fateful battle with the Diabolos came. He had openly declared that he had passed the trials set for him by the other Senima to prove to them that he was worthy of their blessings and gifts, and asked Lilen what she asked of him. As a test of patience, Lilen told Unex to catch her butterfly, Chaosis, without harming it, and return it to her shrine.

She did not tell Unex that she had transformed one of her few remaining Windwalkers into Chaosis, and that in truth it was no more a butterfly than a priestess.
Lilen watched with doubts as Unex chased Chaosis around the Susurr Woods, periodically blown from his feet by the powerful gust from the butterfly's wingbeat and losing track of the small creature in the dense depths of the woods. Exhaustion drove the Death Priest to the ground in recovery. Unex Multin started to notice that whenever he stopped to recover or took the time to look around at where the butterfly had gone it would emerge once more, and that the winds whipped up by its wings were only enough to lift him from his feet when he was in full pursuit. He decided to try sitting in quiet meditation, both in recovery and with the hope of luring the Chaosis in close enough for him to grasp. However, when Unex felt that the Chaosis must be close enough to grab and opened his eyes, he found that his serene meditation had in fact drawn the butterfly into his lap. Unex gently closed his hands around the butterfly and delicately placed it onto the shrine.

Chaosis then reverted back to its original Windwalker form and the priestess marvelled at the gentle touch and truly heroic aura of the Death Priest before her.
Having completed her task with the patience he would need to succeed against his foe, Lilen gave Unex Multin her blessing and her gift; the wings of an angel and all the associated boons.

With Lilen's blessing, and the blessings of the rest of the Senima, Unex Multin went on to become the first Spiritblade, defeat the Wrathlore, and unify the gods in the first Dratoran golden age.

Following the Wrathlore's defeat, Lilen marks the end of the creation of daemons by rounding up her legions of angels and snapping the wings off of any defectors, stripping them of the rank and boons, and casting them into the Nullax as fallen angels, disgraced by their betrayal and mortally bound to their scattered feathers.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Norac, the Senimus of death, is the father to one of her Nu'a children, Tara. They are also close allies and have a particularly close relationship, although they are not necessarily depicted as lovers on a regular basis. Naeten, the Senimus of stone, is the father to one of her demigod children, Deena the Sandstorm. Lilen also shares many of Naeten's morals and approves of his nurturing demeanour. Lilen is very fond of Ektar, Nu'us of construction and admirer of Mordis', believing him to be mortally just and a good influence on Mordis. Cera, the Senimus of war, is the father to one of her Nu'a children, Serpae. Lilen has a positive opinion of Noira, Nu'us of the wild, and sees her as a being of natural honesty. Lilen has a positive opinion of the twins Vidis, Nu'us of envy, and Tamis, Nu'us of pride. Vidis shares Lilen's maternal nature, which Lilen considers to be a huge virtue, whilst Tamis is simply a goddess who holds herself tall with contagious charisma and confidence that Lilen admires. Lilen dislikes Troff, Nu'us of ambition, due to his aggressive and possessive demeanour paired with his desire for a union with Tara, Lilen's daughter. Lilen also dislikes Eris, Nu'us of lust, who, out of desire for Troff, acts with hostility towards Tara, Lilen's daughter. Lilen disapproves of Ari, the Senimus of harvest, on account of her lack of motherly instinct. Lilen dislikes Dregg on account of his sweeping insults against members of the pantheon that do not share his lineage. Gorav, the Senimus of fire, is joint eldest among the Senima with Lilen. Lilen hates Gorav, seeing him as holding almost entirely opposite morals to her. Much like the rest of the pantheon, Lilen despises the Diabolas, Judias Wrathlore, seeing it as the antithesis of everything the pantheon stand for.

Family Ties

Allyce, the Senimus of water, was Lilen's first creation. She is like a daughter and a sister to her, and they are close allies grounded in mutual respect. Tara, the Nu'us of truth, is Lilen's daughter with Norac. Their relationship is strong and healthy, as close to the ideal family unit as the gods can muster. Espo, the Nu'us of destiny, is Tara's daughter and Lilen's granddaughter. Espo does not associate with the rest of the pantheon much, but Lilen is very fond of her from afar. Mordis, the Nu'us of study, is Tara's son and Lilen's grandson. Despite him being the son of Troff, whom Lilen dislikes, Lilen loves Mordis dearly and admires his pacifist nature. Serpae, the Nu'us of morality, is Lilen's daughter with Cera. Lilen loves her with an unconditional motherly love but Serpae has two opposing sides, one of which Lilen objects to on moral grounds. Deena "the Sandstorm" Seisios is Lilen's demigod child with Naeten, Senimus of stone.

Social Aptitude

Lilen is charismatic and approachable; nurturing and supportive with a demeanour of tolerance.

Hobbies & Pets

Lilen is said to have a small butterfly called Chaosis, whose wingbeat can cause gale force winds.
