Familiar

Unique magic used by the Society of Infinity, familiars are constructs made out of pure magical energy. Though they take animal-like forms (not always existing ones), they are not animals. Being bound to a specific dragon, the familiar is a reflection of sorts, basing its form on its owner's personality and needs. And, likewise, its intelligence is equal to that of its owner, with the familiar having a keen understanding of its owner. They have no true personality or life to them, though some may act otherwise if it suits their owner.

Effect

A familiar spell consists of two parts. The first part is the enchanting of a so-called Infinity Crystal, a type of magical crystal which can be found in the tunnels where the Society of Infinity lives. The enchanting binds a crystal to its owner, shaping the magic inside into a familiar, which can then take on a shape on its own.

The second part of a familiar spell is the 'standard' spell, the one typically thought of when talking about familiars, which lets the owner summon their familiar (or, less commonly, unsummon it). Due to the nature of Infinity Crystals, and the familiar spell itself, this action can only be performed by the one the crystal is bound to, but requires no magical abilities or energy from them.

Manifestation

When binding a crystal to its new owner, success is immediately visible as the familiar will form, taking on its new (and permanent) shape. Afterwards, manifestation involves the summoning of said familiar, which typically but not always involves slight light emitted from the crystal. And, of course, the familiar will now be present, somewhat see-through and often glowing slightly.

The initial formation of a familiar requires a magic-user, the power of an Infinity Crystal, and the unique magic signature of the dragon it is being bound to. Afterwards, the spell requires no maintenance, as the Infinity Crystal can be recharged by the familiar itself from environmental (raw) magic.
