Homebrew: Enchanted Item Charges

A set of rules governing an enchanted item's charges and methods of recharging an item.

Recharging Enchanted Items

Draft

The following is in a draft state and not final. The equation for maximum charges may be adjusted based on playtesting.

All re-usable enchanted items have a charge. Charges can be replenished by a spell caster, but only if the enchantment is a known spell. This system is intended to pair with the Mana Points System, but can be adapted to work without it.

To recharge an enchanted item, the caster must be able to perform a ritual spell at a level equivalent to the enchanted item's spell level, over a period of 10 minutes, including the costs of any mana points associated with the spell level. The caster may then transfer as many remaining mana points to the item as they wish, up to it's maximum capacity. The caster may not put themselves into a mana deficit in the process, and cannot perform this action while under a deficit.

If performing a long rest, the caster may perform the recharge spell on a single enchanted item as if they had full mana, and still have full mana following the rest.
