Malady, the Raven Queen

Fey Goddess of Death, Fate and War

Fate is an unusual thing. An unseen force predicting every action of every being. Some deities can see it, recognizing the flow of the plan. There are none, save one, that claims mastery over it, that manipulates it with such cold intent, that steers it ever toward war and the red demise of heroes. Master of the skein of fate and the mistress of winter, Malady the Raven Queen is this god of death. Her gaze follows and marks the end of each mortal life, watching over the border between life and death and ensuring the natural transition is undefiled. Many funerals ask her blessing to protect the deceased from the terrible curse of undeath, for it is solely her unending watch that staves off necromantic revival, and the revenants who hide amongst the living worship her devoutly for she might be able guide them towards their ends. Subtle and manipulative, there is no war the Queen of the Unseelie Court did not incite. No dying breath she did not collect. No unforeseen twist of fate she did not ripple into effect. No mortal she does not have her eyes upon.

Depiction

Few existing visual depictions of the Raven Queen exist; many temples merely use the raven as a symbol of her blessing. The few illustrations of her portray a tall, pale woman wrapped in dangling black linens and armor laced with feathers, with her face obscured by a white porcelain mask tipped with a crown of silver and her onyx-black hair straight and neverending.

Commandments of the Raven Queen

  • Death is the natural end of life. There is no pity for those who have fallen nor mercy for those who run from it.
  • Accept hardships and move along the skein of fate. Those who pridefully attempt to cast off their destiny must be punished.
  • Undeath is an atrocity. Those who would pervert the transition of the soul must be brought down.
