The Eternal Flame

A Dragon's Breath

The Importance

For anyone who has camped or spent any amount of time outside during the winter months knows that heat is vital. That is one of the reasons why the Eternal Flame was one of the most sought after commodities, particularly in Draconics' early human years.

However, it was a necessity that everyone needed but not everyone could have.

The Characteristics

The Eternal Flame is a fire that burns consistently through (supposedly) anything. It has all the regular characteristics of fire but is one of the rarest elements in Draconis. However, throughout the history records people have said that it seemed to have a life of its own. Burning slowly sometimes but faster others. It was said to leap from fire source to fire source. Yet the Eternal Flame is so rare nowadays there is nearly no way to prove that such things happened.

The Battles

The amount of battles over The Eternal Flame are innumerable. However, there were three battles that no one could ever forget, despite them happening years upon years ago.

The First Battle

This was the first battle recorded among mankind translated it's called The Battle at Hell's Gate. One side had the fire, the other didn't, and winter was only two months away. Each side was on equal footing, one had better weapons, better organization but less people. The other had more people and the Fire, however they had very few good weapons and very poor tactical skill.

It was a bloody mess and no one won. By the end of it, the Fire had died out just like any chance for victory.

The Second Battle

This battle was much more personal. Among two brothers who had both created settlements. However, instead of being a battle of might and strength, this was a battle of wits and intellect, fittingly called the Battle of Two Intellectual Titans.

Both brothers were young, prideful and competitive. Instead of coming together and trying to help each other, they turned against each other, attempting to find the Eternal Flame before the other.

Each brother left their settlement and went throughout Draconis hunting for the legendary Eternal Flame. Unfortunately, neither brother succeeded and both of their settlements died before either of them could return.

The Third Battle This was the last battle in a year long war. Each side had been even untill this point, however the idea of spies were growing more and more popular. Paranoia was everywhere and no one could trust anyone.

The leaders made decisions without anyone's input. Generals sent their soldiers to battle when no one knew the goal. The soldiers didn't trust their fellow men and any sign of camaraderie had disappeared.

It was in this last battle when the Eternal Flame made an appearance. It was launched into the sky and burned the entire enemy camp. To anyone during the battle it would have been obvious who had launched the Fire, but instead the people fired upon turned to their fellow soldiers and declared they were the ones behind the attack.

The Eternal Flame was said to have bounced from enemy tent to enemy tent, destroying everything. The people who had launched the Flame descended upon the enemy and killed them all.

The victorious general sent a message back to the king telling him of his victory and that he would be arriving back at the capital soon. However, history says that the general and his men never made it back. Legend has it, the Flame burned him and his men alive.

Every single one of them.
