Theyodore Eoin Character in Draconia | World Anvil

Theyodore Eoin (THAY-oh-door AY-oh-in)

Former cartographer turned wild-man

Wild King of Briggs Theyodore Eoin (a.k.a. Yeti Dad)

I was twenty-one when I had my daughter. Beti was the sweetest little gremlin anyone could ask for. I lost her a year later when a fire broke out in our house. I had already lost her mother and now I had lost her. For years I struggled with my grief, spiraling further into my depression. The only thing keeping me going was my job and love of exploring the wild. I had hoped that one day I could take Beti and chart the uncharted wilds of Draconia.
— Tristan Eoin
Often hailed as one of the greatest cartographers of modern times, Theyodore Eoin is a renowned person of fame all across Draconia. His natural love of exploration and uncanny ability to escape from danger were talents that he utilized to great effect during his career making maps for the Council of Dragons. As talented as he was, he could not escape the curse that would befall his personal life.

Childhood and Early Career

Theyodore began his life known as Tristan, born to the Eoin family of Alezar. His family hails from a long line of royal servants that have tended to the needs of the Red Dragon Overlord since the beginning of the Era of Dragons. His early life was spent being molded to fulfill that same role as he grew older, but he managed to alter his path by making a mockery of Ralbas Cinderclaw by relentlessly pulling pranks on him.   He terrorized the Overlord, selling liquor from his cabinet, stashing confidential documents away, even going so far as to plunder Ralbas' personal hoard, just to return it back after enacting his prank on the furious dragon. Even as Ralbas chased after the young boy in attempts to punish him, Theyodore would slip through his grasp time and time again, finding some secret passageway in the Cinderclaw Estate that even Ralbas was unaware of. He possessed some otherworldly intuition, a sixth sense for discovering that which was hidden or concealed.   Ralbas put this supernatural gift to the test by providing the boy a chance to win his freedom. The Overlord had his servants stash a religious artifact of Tiamat that Ralbas personally treasured. If Theyodore could navigate the tunnels and secrets of the manor and return with the artifact, he'd have earned his freedom, with the caveat that he join the Cartographers Corp. To Ralbas' surprise, the boy pulled the trinket from his back pocket, having already plundered it earlier that morning on an early exploration session through the manor's crypts. The Overlord was stunned to say the least. As disgusted as he was at the thought of losing a servant, he was a dragon of his word. Theyodore was a free boy.

Charting the Wilds

Theyodore joined the Cartographers Corp shortly after he became a freed person, as per his and Ralbas' deal. The first few years of his career were spent as a trainee underneath the tutelage of some of the more experienced explorers. He received high praise from his tutors who were impressed by his intuition for finding hidden paths that they hadn't discovered before, not only embarrassing some of his mentors but also earning some ire from the less-accomplished members of the Corps. The ire wasn't something that he was worried about. Surviving a dragon's efforts to charbroil him for several years gave him the confidence that he'd be able to outwit whatever those talentless hacks would try.   His official induction into the Corps took place in 3023 EoD on his 18th birthday. While the few friends were excited that he was now an official member, it wasn't something he was terribly excited about. He had already grown dissatisfied with the organization, specifically the leadership. For the last year and a half his maps had been plagiarized by his mentors, with no credit being given to him. When this issue was brought to the attention of the senior officials, they scoffed at him and told him that that was the price of being an apprentice. Obviously he was furious with such a response, but there was little he could do. This employment was the result of a deal and he refused to break that deal.   Instead of wallowing in self-pity, he forged ahead, refusing to let the incompetent morons who had stolen his work get any more credit to their names. He swore to chart the Severnaya Valley, even if it cost him his life.
