Whitestone Castle

Castle Whitestone was built in the hills of Dale in the Mortal Age by an overly zealous king of Southscape. The large castle complex, along with its commanding position atop one of the highest hills in the region, made it a desirable fortification for any lord looking to secure the productive hill country. As such Whitestone was seemingly under constant siege for over a century before an agreement was reached that no one ruler would hold it, largely because attempting to do so had proven too costly for everyone involved. Instead the castle would be used to house a new school, one that would promote peace, cooperation, and scientific and arcane research. Thus Whitestone College and its three member institutions were founded upon the grounds. Today the castle is technically within the borders of the kingdom of Silverspire, but it is largely left to its own governance by the three deans of the college, who also administer the surrounding countryside and use a portion of its tax levee for maintenance and upkeep.
