Hippogriffs

Extremely similar to griffins are their favorite prey. Hippogriffs possess the same eagle heads, wings, and talons but their back half is that of a horse. Coming in a variety of colors, only sometimes coordinated between the two halves, hippogriffs are the size of regular horses, as one might expect. They are predatory, eating small mammals, deer, sheep, and young or sickly cattle. Though they might literally and figuratively live in griffins’ shadows, hippogriffs are nothing to be scoffed at and are extremely capable in their own right.

Additional Information

Domestication

Strong, swift, and above all, loyal, hippogriffs are the favorite flying mounts of Ferretrix’s hobgoblins. The two groups seem to share a love of rigorous order that allows them to mesh and work together as one. They have no trouble lifting short hobgoblins to the skies while still maintaining speed and maneuverability. They train beautifully and their herd instincts can be leveraged to pull off group maneuvers midair to deadly effect. Living thirty to forty years, they are fit for combat until at least age twenty, and many still fight at twenty five.
