Gamma Man
Perhaps Earth’s most potent modern NuType, Gamma Man never intended to be the international champion he has become. Initially nuclear physicist Isaac Smith, Gamma Man’s beginnings came from what should have been the end of the young physicist’s life. A freak accident during an experiment to determine whether the radioactive decay affected Higgs Energy, which was hoped to be used as a force of a cutting-edge energy source, left Smith bombarded with a fatal dose of radiation and Higgs Bosum particles. However, what would have riddled any other individual with tumors and reduced their organs to slurry seemingly had no effect on Smith: subsequent testing revealed him (and the entire testing chamber) entirely free of any malign radioactive signature – it was as if the radiation had been entirely scrubbed away. It wasn’t until later, when Smith saved several fellow civilians during an unrelated Kaiju attack, that he discovered that he had changed.
Smith’s gene mutated, triggered during the test as the Higgs Energy washed through him as the radiation tore into DNA; he had become a radiation scrubber where the energy he was exposed to would be stored inside his cell, and he later could release through his body in strange and impossible ways using it to hyper-power his body beyond the known bounds of physics. As he continued testing himself, Smith discovered that his power was more tremendous than he could have ever imagined, and, seeing it as his responsibility to use his powers for the greater good, Smith took up the mantle of the hero, taking the name Gamma Man in response to his accident.
He would find himself in high demand thanks to his incredible power, and the rookie hero quickly developed a broad portfolio of experience, starting with the Third Crisis all the way to final battle of the anchor in the Sixth Crisis.
He was a founding member of S.E.N.T.I.N.E.L. in 20XX after it was clear that UNSC tied the hands of many NuTypes with how its ORG worked. He quickly became the alpha strike team’s field leader, the Council leader, and representative to the UNSC of S.E.N.T.I.N.E.L. while acting as the moral compass since.
Appearance: Isaac Smith was a slightly taller-than-average young man with sandy blonde hair and brown eyes: following his awakening to the full extent of his powers, those eyes are now a solid, vibrant emerald hue. His perpetually active lifestyle has led Smith to developing a broader, more muscular physique, but as his power has little correlation to his muscle mass, Smith is nowhere near as built as many of his teammates, making him seem much smaller by comparison when out of costume. However, when 'suited up' (which has become most of the time) there is a certain undeniable gravity to Smith that sees him command attention.
