Hekan

A species that originated on the planet Heka. Hekans are divided into Mammalian clans, Aquatic clans, Insectian clans, and Avian clans. Though the clans had racial tensions in the past, they have mostly put those beside. Despite this, members do generally seem to associate with their own clan-types naturally. They are a studious people that place a great deal of emphasis on their young's prowess and education in the crafts of magic. Hekans prefer a vegetarian diet and generally refuse to eat anything that was once sentient.

Primarily human with animal features related to their clan

Genetics and Reproduction

A hekan gains their clan traits from their mother but their respective coloration from their father, their human traits are passed down exactly like that of humans. Hekans are able to breed within their own clan-type but cross-clan-type breeding will not produce offspring. Interestingly, at least mammalian Hekans seem to be able to produce viable off-spring with Humans and are believed to be compatible with Beastmen as well. It is theorized this is true of other clan-types with species similar to those types as well.

Civilization and Culture

History

Back in the early days of Hekan evolution, a group of human mages traveled to Heka to escape the persecution of their homeworld. Their combined power was so immense that it began to pervade the land, and spread to the native species, affecting their own evolution. As time went on, they developed more humanoid forms to better utilize the magic they possessed, eventually becoming half-human themselves. This evolution alongside magic gives all Hekans an innate ability to use magic, which on average is more powerful than the grasp other species have with magic. Their individual power levels vary drastically, from mastering multiple disciplines to barely managing parlor tricks. However, this evolution affected all species, leading to non-hybrid life no longer existing.
Each existing species of human-animal hybrid refer to themselves as clans, and, after tumultuous evolution, interact on a relatively harmonious basis, although tension from past clan-fighting still exists. However, the different types of clans (mammalian, avian, insectian, and aquatic) generally do not interact with each other.
