Great Achton River (grayt ACH-tuhn RIV-ur)

Overview

The Great Achton River is the largest river in settled Dosjorya, forming a natural physical barrier between the north and the south. Most of the other rivers within settled Dosjorya drain into the Great Achton, making much of this region the Great Achton's river basin.
Features
A great amount of water passes through the Great Achton river due to its system of tributaries. many of these feed the great river with spring or rain water, but a larger amount feed it with sandy, silty mountain runoff. Heavy erosion in the mountains leads to the consistent cloudy brown color of the Great Achton's waters.   In the mountains, the Great Achton follows narrow channels deep in valleys, passing through moderate rapids and a single waterfall. The river's main source is the vast Great Lake Lavoxen  beyond settled Dosjorya. at times portions of its mountainous stretches are choked by landslide debris.   The Great Achton River calms and widens out as it exits the mountains, flowing through the relatively flat forests. Numerous smaller rivers join its route as the major river takes a more direct path to the ocean. By the time the Great Achton emerges from the forest, another of the region's largest rivers, the Great Lekmeton River, joins it at Lake Nyr.   The now mile wide river flows into a small coastal wetland marsh and flood basin for its final fifty miles until it empties into the ocean.
Significance
All of the lower Great Achton River, the portion from the end of the mountains to the ocean, is navigable by small and large boats, allowing for the easy transport of goods and people downstream. Fewer boats are able to ford the Great Achton's waters upstream, leading to the concentration of goods and people near Hasenburg . It is for this reason that Hasenburg became the center for commerce in Dosjorya.
