Meriden

The capital city of the Kingdom of Eloir and center of The Church of the Eternal Dawn.   Believed to have been the first settlement built by Edmund the Wise following The Age of Dusk, the city acts as the cultural birthplace of the kingdom.

Demographics

The majority of the city's populace is human with Elves and Beastkin making up a small minority.   As the original residence of the Church, clerics make up a significant portion of the city's profession in addition to merchants, guards, and tradesmen.

Government

Most day to day operations of the Meriden are handled by the Lord Regent of the city as with most regions. What makes Meriden stand apart is that the royal family's ability to supersede the rulings of a lord is more pronounced here as laws and regulations still need to be approved by the king before they can go into effect.

Industry & Trade

Originally established to be a center for distributing food during the Age of Dusk, Meriden remains a major trading hub thanks to its continued access to the Albin river.

Infrastructure

The land the city is built upon was supposedly selected by Edmund the Wise himself due to its proximity to both fertile agricultural fields and the Albin river. The fields allowed farmers to grow plentiful crops while the river allowed for easier shipping of transport of crops and other goods for trade.    To this day, Meriden still reflects that as access to both the river and farming fields remains a consideration with city development plans.

Tourism

As the spiritual center of the kingdom, it is not uncommon for followers of the Eternal Dawn to make pilgrimages to the city.
